Bristol: Rain, Rumors, and Really Weird Vibes

okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. 2978640 and 1250296332 - seriously, what is that? it’s just…there. the air here in Bristol feels thick, like wet wool. the temp is 10.29, feels like 9.65, min 10.29, max 10.43, pressure 1021, humidity 87, sea level 1021, ground level 1018. it’s… unsettling. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

I landed here yesterday, mostly because a friend - bless her chaotic heart - said it had "character." and honestly, it does. it’s got this gritty, almost bruised beauty. like a really old bruise that’s slowly fading, but still visible. i’m staying in this tiny place near St. Nicholas Market - it smells faintly of smoked cheese and damp brick. it’s…cozy, i guess? i’m trying to capture the whole thing with my camera, but the light is just weird. it’s like the sky is perpetually trying to rain on my parade, which, let’s be real, is pretty much my default setting.

Spent the morning wandering around the market. it’s a proper hive of activity. loads of street food, vintage clothes (which, naturally, i spent way too much money on), and a bunch of artists selling their stuff. someone told me that the Arnolfini Gallery has a really interesting exhibition on right now - something about textile art. i’m adding it to my list. https://www.arnolfini.org.uk/

Then i stumbled across this place called ‘The Plough’. it’s a pub, obviously. but it’s not just any pub. it’s got this incredibly low-lit interior, dark wood, and a bunch of locals nursing pints of something dark and mysterious. i overheard a conversation about a local legend - apparently, there’s a ghost that haunts the old Clifton Suspension Bridge. someone told me that if you stand on the bridge at midnight and whisper a secret, you’ll hear it respond. i’m not saying i believe it, but i’m definitely going to check it out tonight. https://www.cliftonbridge.org.uk/

I’m trying to find a decent coffee spot, but it’s proving difficult. most places seem to be serving some kind of vaguely flavored syrup concoction. i need a proper espresso. i heard that ‘The Hideaway’ has some good beans, but it’s always packed. https://www.thehideawaybristol.co.uk/

Speaking of locals, if you get bored, Cardiff is just a short drive away. They’ve got a pretty decent castle, apparently. And there’s this guy, Barry, who runs a record shop near the docks. he’s a bit of a character, but he knows his stuff. I heard that he’s obsessed with obscure 80s synth-pop.

I’m trying to document everything, you know? the light, the sounds, the smells… it’s all a bit overwhelming, but in a good way. i’m using my camera to try and capture the essence of the place. it’s hard to describe, really. it’s like trying to bottle a feeling. i’m thinking of doing a series of photos inspired by the city - moody portraits, street scenes, maybe even some abstract shots.

Right now, i’m just sitting in my room, listening to the rain and trying to figure out what to do next. i need to find a decent curry house. seriously, the food scene here is…underwhelming. I’m also considering checking out the M Shed museum - it’s all about Bristol’s history. https://www.mshistory.org.uk/

Honestly, this place is giving me serious “lost in translation” vibes. it’s beautiful, but also a little unsettling. like a dream you can’t quite remember. i’m going to grab another coffee and see what happens. maybe i’ll even try to talk to that ghost on the bridge. wish me luck. and if you’re ever in Bristol, be prepared for rain, rumors, and a whole lot of weirdness. don’t forget to check out Yelp for local recommendations! https://www.yelp.com/
