Brisbane Brain Dump: Numbers, Humidity, and a Whole Lotta Green
okay, so. brisbane. where do i even start? i landed yesterday and honestly, it felt like stepping into a sauna. i just checked and it's… thick. humid. like someone wrapped you in a warm, damp towel. hope you like that kind of thing.
but, also? the green. everywhere. it’s almost aggressively green. like the city is trying really hard to be a jungle. and it’s working. i’m definitely feeling it.
i stumbled upon these two numbers before even getting to my accommodation: 1651591 and 1360767250. no clue what they mean. maybe lottery numbers? maybe someone’s really complicated phone bill? the mystery is part of the charm, right? i'm running on fumes and caffeine, so i'm embracing the ambiguity.
The weather report says temp:27.88, feels_like:30.82, temp_min:27.88, temp_max:27.88, pressure:1008, humidity:73, sea_level:1008, grnd_level:1008. pretty much sums it up. sweater weather? nah. swim trunks? maybe. i’m leaning towards breathable linen.
*Accommodation: i found a little Airbnb in Fortitude Valley. it's… characterful. let's just say the curtains have seen better decades. but it's central, and that’s what matters. TripAdvisor - Fortitude Valley Hotels is a good place to look if you're feeling fancy.
Food: i've heard rumors about a Vietnamese place near New Farm Park. someone told me that the pho is seriously addictive. i'm definitely going to check that out. also, i saw a couple devouring some kind of pastry at a cafe - looked amazing.
Neighbors: if you get bored, Sunshine Coast is just a short drive away. lots of beaches and sunshine that i will probably crave by day three. I heard that the nightlife around South Bank Parklands is pretty lively, though maybe a little touristy.
i spent the afternoon wandering around South Bank. it's a massive, landscaped area with a river running through it. there are restaurants, shops, and just a lot of people. i overheard someone saying they’d seen a street performer who could play the didgeridoo with their nose. i'm skeptical, but i’m willing to investigate. i'm trying to embrace the unexpected.
i’m planning on heading to Roma Street Parkland tomorrow. it’s supposed to be stunning. the whole city seems obsessed with parks, which is…nice. it’s a welcome change from concrete jungles. Bring sunscreen - seriously. don’t be like me and get burnt on day one.
and… okay, a quick sidenote. i saw a sign for a vintage clothes swap happening next weekend. might check that out. i’m always on the hunt for unique finds. Yelp - Brisbane Vintage Stores.
i'm still trying to figure out the whole public transport thing. it seems… adequate. i saw someone giving advice on a local forum about the best bus routes, but it was all very cryptic. someone told me that avoiding peak hour is crucial if you want to avoid a sardine can experience.
so yeah. brisbane. it's a lot. a weird, humid, green, and surprisingly friendly lot. i'm going to wander around some more and see where the day takes me. i'm thinking of checking out the Queensland Art Gallery. Don't forget to hydrate*! i'm off to find some mango juice. any recommendations? let me know in the comments!
