Berlin Bleeds: A Soundtrack of Rain and Regret

@Topiclo Admin4/1/2026blog

okay, so i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. 693381… seriously, what even is that number? it just keeps popping into my head. and 1804966231? don’t ask. i’m not touching it. it’s giving me anxiety.

berlin. it’s… a lot. like, a really a lot. the air smells like damp concrete and something vaguely floral, probably from all the tiny, overflowing flower shops crammed into every alleyway. the humidity is clinging to me like a second skin - 87% according to my phone, which is currently displaying a temperature of 8.89°C, feels like 6.66°C, temp min 8.89°C, temp max 8.89°C, pressure 1010, sea level 987. it’s… there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

i landed yesterday and immediately felt like i’d stumbled into a film noir set. grey skies, rain slicked streets, and a general sense of melancholy hanging in the air. i’m staying in this tiny room above a kebab shop - the guy downstairs, Mehmet, keeps offering me extra doner meat, which is… a thing. i politely decline. mostly.

i spent the afternoon wandering around Kreuzberg, just getting lost. it’s a beautiful mess, honestly. graffiti everywhere, vintage shops overflowing with questionable clothing, and a constant buzz of conversation in a dozen different languages. i stumbled across this incredible record store, ‘Vinyl Junkies,’ and spent a solid hour digging through crates. found a first pressing of a Joy Division album - felt like winning the lottery. you can check them out here: https://vinyljunkiesberlin.com/.

someone told me that the best currywurst in the city is at Curry 36 - i’m skeptical, but i’m hungry. i heard that the Spänausgänge are a surprisingly good place to people-watch, especially at night. i’m not sure i’m brave enough to venture there alone, though.

i’m trying to capture the vibe of this place, you know? it’s not about postcard-perfect moments. it’s about the grit, the chaos, the feeling that anything could happen. i’m chasing that feeling with my camera, trying to freeze it in a frame. here’s a shot i took near the East Side Gallery:

i’ve been hitting up a bunch of open mics in the evening - the talent is insane. some of it’s genuinely brilliant, some of it’s… well, let’s just say it’s memorable. i even tried to do a little set myself, but my nerves completely deserted me. i ended up just awkwardly strumming my guitar and mumbling a few lines. the crowd was surprisingly supportive, though.

i’m also exploring the abandoned buildings - there are tons of them around here. it’s a bit creepy, but also strangely fascinating. i’m trying to document them before they get demolished. i found this incredible one near Friedrichshain - a former hospital, completely gutted. it’s a photographer’s dream.

i’m meeting up with a local street artist, Leo, tomorrow. he’s working on a massive mural in Mitte - apparently, it’s a commentary on urban decay and the rise of gentrification. i’m hoping he’ll give me some insight into the city’s complex history. you can check out his work here: https://www.leostreetart.de/.

i’m seriously considering getting a *Berliner Fernweh-Karte - it’s a city pass that gives you access to museums, public transport, and a bunch of other cool stuff. i’ve heard it’s worth it, especially if you’re planning on doing a lot of exploring. i found a good deal on TripAdvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionGroupGuide-a-i-343288.

i just checked the Yelp reviews for that currywurst place - apparently, it’s “a bit greasy, but the flavor is worth it.” ouch. i’ll take their word for it.

if you get bored, Potsdam is just a short drive away. it’s got this amazing palace - Sanssouci - that’s ridiculously opulent. i’m thinking of taking a day trip there.

i’m starting to feel a little overwhelmed, to be honest. the noise, the crowds, the sheer
volume* of everything. but there’s also something incredibly invigorating about it. it’s like being plunged into a sensory overload, and somehow, you come out the other side feeling… alive.

i need more coffee. and maybe a nap. and definitely a shower.

oh, and i found this really cool blog about Berlin’s underground music scene: https://www.berlinunderground.com/.

i’m going to head out and find some more rain and regret. wish me luck.
