Austin, Texas: 4377664 & 1840007396 - A Whirlwind
okay, so i’m still kinda shaking from the whole thing. you ever just get a really… weird number? like, legitimately strange? i saw it scrawled on a napkin at a little taco stand downtown - 4377664. and then, just a little later, 1840007396. no context. no explanation. just…numbers. i’m not even sure what it means. feels like something out of a bad sci-fi flick, ya know?
and the weather? i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. a hazy sort of sunshine, clinging to the air like a forgotten promise. the humidity is absolutely insane; it feels like you're wading through warm soup. seriously, bring a poncho. and maybe a hazmat suit.
but honestly, the vibe of this city? it’s something else. it's like everyone's perpetually in a state of creative chaos. and the food… oh god, the food. i’m still dreaming of the breakfast tacos. seriously, don't leave *Austin without trying them. i heard someone at the Continental Club said they were the best in the state. Yelp has a ton of reviews, but i'm trusting my gut on this one.
so, i bounced around a bit. spent a solid afternoon wandering around South Congress, which is basically a tourist trap but a fun one. i got totally lost in the vintage shops - seriously, the racks are overflowing with amazing finds. i ended up snagging a killer denim jacket for next to nothing. South Congress shopping is a must for any vintage lover.
Someone told me that there's this hidden speakeasy tucked away in the East Side. It's called 'The Alibi' and you have to know someone to get in. Apparently, it’s ridiculously cool and serves the best cocktails in town.”
I tried to catch a live band at a little venue on Sixth Street, but it was a bit overwhelming. Lots of people, lots of noise, lots of… well, you get the picture. I think a local warned me about that area; someone said it's best experienced after midnight. But hey, to each their own, right?
I also spent a couple of hours just sitting by the Colorado River, watching the barges float by. It’s surprisingly peaceful, especially if you escape the crowds. I even saw a guy practicing his skateboarding tricks - seriously impressive. Check out the park's website for info on trails and events.
I heard that the food trucks along Rainey Street are insane. They’re always changing, so you have to keep an eye out. Apparently, there’s a new one every week!
I'm trying to squeeze in some hiking too, but the city is spread out, so it's a bit of a trek. I might head out to the Barton Creek Greenbelt* sometime. Seriously considering downloading a trail map - looks like a good place to get away from it all. Barton Creek Greenbelt is the place to be if you want some fresh air.
Honestly, it’s all a bit of a blur. i’m trying to process everything, but it’s definitely a city that gets under your skin. i’m leaving with a full stomach, a slightly sunburnt nose, and a million stories to tell. and maybe a lingering sense that those numbers - 4377664 and 1840007396 - aren't totally random after all. something about them kinda resonates… i don't know. maybe it's the whole mystery thing? who knows? i'm off to find some more tacos.
