touring session drummer finds rhythm in the hills

woke up in a haze, drums still echoing in my head. the gig last night in the tiny pub was wild-felt like the whole town showed up just to see if we'd crash and burn. but we didn't. and now i'm here, in this little hill station that smells like pine and rain-soaked earth. the numbers on my phone say 1274821 and 1356007832-probably some random codes, maybe my brain's way of telling me i need more sleep. or coffee. definitely coffee.

it's 25.57 degrees out, feels like 25.62, and the humidity's at 55%. basically, perfect hoodie weather. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. if you get bored, ooty and coonoor are just a short drive away, but honestly? i'm not leaving this spot until i find the best chai in town.

heard from a drunk guy at the bar last night that there's a hidden waterfall somewhere near here. he said, "if you follow the path behind the old church, you'll find it. but watch out for the monkeys-they'll steal your snacks." classic drunk advice, but i'm tempted to try it. monkeys aside, it sounds like exactly the kind of messy adventure i need.

anyway, i've been wandering around with my sticks in my bag, tapping on everything-benches, railings, even a cow (it didn't seem to mind). the locals here are used to weirdos, i think. one guy at a tea stall even handed me a pair of spoons and said, "try these, they're better than sticks." so i did. and he was right.

if you're ever here, check out *the blue mountain express for a ride through the hills-it's like a slow-motion drum solo on wheels. and if you need a place to crash, glenmore guest house* is where i'm staying. cheap, cozy, and the owner plays old jazz records at night. perfect for a drummer's broken sleep schedule.

i keep thinking about that waterfall. maybe tomorrow. or maybe i'll just stay here and drum on more cows. who knows? that's the beauty of this life-it's messy, unpredictable, and exactly what i signed up for.
