Tomsk: When Your Jokes Get Frostbite

alright so i roll into this city called tomsk right? and the first thing i notice is how the air feels like someone’s holding an ice cube under your nose. i just peeked and the weather’s still that frozen vibe, hope you packed thermals. real talk, my fingers went numb trying to open a beer. *siberian cold hits different, it’s the kind that makes you question why you left your couch.

a city with many buildings and trees

if you run out of material, other siberian towns are just a bus ride away. heard barnaul’s got this insane
museum of bread that’s basically a carb cult. took a day trip to see it - worth it for the existential dread of bread worship alone. but tomsk’s got its own weird charm, like these wooden houses that look like they’re melting. saw one leaning so hard i swear it was trying to flirt with the sidewalk.

a lone tree in the middle of a valley

someone told me the locals judge you by how fast you can ch vodka without making a face. tried it and failed spectacularly. now i’m known as ‘the guy who cried over tito’s’.

i heard that the
lenin statue downtown sometimes wears a hat in winter. not joking, locals apparently dress it up. saw it wearing a knitted beanie yesterday - felt like a communist fever dream.

a body of water surrounded by a forest

tried doing a set at this dive bar called ‘komnata’ - crowd was nice until i made a joke about their
borscht. suddenly i’m facing existential silence. turns out grandma’s recipe is sacred. who knew? grabbed a bite at this place near the opera house - pelmeni so good i almost forgot my fingers were icicles.

some drunk dude warned me that the
river tom* floods every spring and carries away your dignity if you’re not careful. not sure if he meant literally or metaphorically.

checked out this art gallery - saw a painting of a bear riding a unicycle. that’s tomsk in a nutshell, honestly. also found this forum where people argue about whether pineapples belong on pizza. priorities, right?

so yeah, tomssk’s cold. brutally cold. but there’s something about a place where the trees look like they’re shivering with you. just maybe bring hand warmers and a joke dictionary. or don’t, i’m not your mom. more russia stuff here if you’re into that.
