the weird little town that stuck with me
okay so here's the deal. i rolled into this place after a long drive, not even sure what i was expecting. the numbers 5393384 and 1840021513? no clue what those mean-maybe coordinates, maybe a glitch, maybe just a sign i needed sleep. anyway, i'm here now, and it's...something.
i just checked the weather and it's 17.31°c with a feels-like of 16.85°c right now, so basically perfect hoodie weather. not too hot, not too cold. humidity's at 67%, which is just enough to make your hair look like you stuck a fork in an outlet. if you're into that kind of thing, congrats.
this town's got this weird vibe-like it's stuck between a ghost town and a place where hipsters are slowly taking over. there's a coffee shop that doubles as a vintage record store, and the barista told me they only play vinyl from bands that broke up before 2005. random? yes. charming? also yes.
"you gotta check out the old theater on 5th," a dude in a beanie told me. "they do silent film nights with live theremin music. it's creepy as hell but worth it."
i heard from a local that the best tacos in town are at a place called "el gringo's secret" which is literally just a food truck behind a laundromat. no sign. no website. just follow your nose and hope for the best. someone else said the pizza place down the street is run by an ex-circus clown who only takes orders in haikus. i didn't test that one, but i like living in a world where it might be true.
if you get bored, san francisco and oakland are just a short drive away, but honestly? this little spot's got enough weird energy to keep you entertained for days. there's a bookstore where the shelves are organized by color, a bar that only serves drinks named after 90s one-hit wonders, and a park where people bring their pet goats on leashes every sunday.
look, i can't promise this place will change your life. but i can tell you it'll give you stories to tell. and isn't that what travel's all about? also, if you're into quirky museums, there's one here dedicated entirely to spoons. no idea why. no one does. but it exists.
check out tripadvisor for more weird local finds, or just wander and see what happens. sometimes the best stuff isn't online-it's the thing you stumble into when you're lost and hungry and slightly confused.
this town? it's not for everyone. but if you're the type who likes a little chaos with your coffee, you might just love it here.
