Salvador: Where the Heat is as Wild as the Street Art

just rolled into salvador and damn, the air feels like a wet sock. i just checked the weather app and it’s holding steady at 83% humidity, so yeah, prepare to sweat like you’re in a sauna wearing a winter coat. the locals say it’s ā€œtropicalā€ but honestly? it feels like the city’s breathing on you.

this place is a riot of color and noise-literally. i found a *co-working space near the Pelourinho that doubles as an art gallery, but the wifi’s so spotty i spent more time sketching graffiti than working. which, y’know, not complaining.

someone told me the elevator to Barra is haunted by a guy who died fixing it, but then again, i also heard that’s just cover for the drug deals happening in the basement. take it with a grain of salt-or aƧaĆ, whatever.

when you’re done getting lost in the colonial alleys, Cachoeira’s only a bus ride away. heard it’s got this river that’s blue enough to make the Caribbean jealous. haven’t been yet, but my hostel owner swears by it.

i overheard this drunk local saying the best acarajƩ is sold by a grandma who only works tuesdays. tried finding her. tuesday came and went. still found good stuff though, just not
that good.

the vibe here? it’s like the city itself is on permanent vacation. samba spills out of every corner, and the
forte de Santo AntĆ“nio* has views that’ll make your camera roll. though warning: a local warned me that if you go at sunset, you’ll get photo-bombed by a hundred honeymooners.

if you’re looking for real eats, skip the tourist traps near the market. this food stall on Yelp? legit. and for history nerds, the Afro-Brazilian Museum is wild.

all in all? salvador’s chaos in the best way. just bring deodorant and a sense of adventure.

p.s. the pressure dropped to 1012 hPa today. apparently that means rain’s coming. hope you like that kind of thing.
