Miami Mayhem: Humidity, Art Deco, and Questionable Ceviche

okay, so. miami. i’m still peeling sunscreen off my elbows. it’s…sticky. i just checked and it’s a damp hug out there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. seriously, the humidity is a character in itself. it clings to you like a desperate ex.

I was here scouting locations for a potential indie film - think neon-drenched noir meets pastel-colored chaos. It’s…a lot. I’m looking for that weird, liminal space, you know? The places where reality feels a little off-kilter. Miami delivers.

I spent most of my time wandering around *South Beach, which is exactly as you’d imagine: art deco buildings, vintage cars, and people who look like they’ve stepped out of a magazine (or a very expensive commercial). I stumbled upon this tiny little gallery tucked away on Ocean Drive - “Chromatic Echoes,” it was called. The artist, some guy named Javier, was painting these insane, almost hallucinatory landscapes. I bought a small print. It’s probably going to clash horribly with everything else I own, but whatever.

Speaking of things that clash, the food scene is…interesting. I had ceviche at this place called “El Marisco Loco.” Someone told me that the owner used to be a pirate. I’m not sure if that’s true, but the ceviche
did taste vaguely of the ocean floor. I’m not complaining, exactly. It was an experience. Check out their Yelp page: https://www.yelp.com/biz/el-marisco-loco-miami.

“Don’t order the octopus. Seriously. Just…don’t.” - Drunk advice from a guy wearing a flamingo shirt.

I also spent an afternoon exploring
Little Havana. The energy there is completely different. The smell of Cuban coffee, the domino games, the music spilling out of every doorway…it’s intoxicating. I picked up a hand-rolled cigar (don’t tell my mom) and watched the world go by. I found a great little cafe on Calle Ocho - Versailles Restaurant. It’s a Miami institution. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g34043-d71357-Reviews-Versailles-Miami_Beach_Florida.html

I overheard some serious gossip at a bar the other night. Apparently, there’s a turf war brewing between two street artists over who gets to paint the mural on the side of the
Wynwood Walls. It’s all very dramatic. You can see some of the art here: https://www.wynwoodwalls.com/.

“He’s using acrylics! Acrylics! Can you imagine? The disrespect!” - Whispered by a woman with a very serious expression and a paintbrush tucked into her hair.

If you get bored of the city,
Fort Lauderdale and Naples are just a short drive away. I didn’t make it out there this time, but I hear the beaches are…less chaotic.

I also spent some time wandering around
Brickell*, which is all sleek skyscrapers and fancy restaurants. It felt…disconnected from the rest of the city, somehow. Like a movie set. I found a really cool vintage clothing store there, though - “Retrograde Threads.” They had some amazing pieces. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g34043-d22888883-Reviews-Retrograde_Threads-Miami_Beach_Florida.html

Okay, I think that’s all I’ve got. My brain is fried. Miami is…a lot. But in a good way? Maybe? I need a nap. And a serious detox from humidity.
