messing around in the weird little corners of this town

i landed here after a night bus from who-knows-where, half-asleep and half-excited. the air was biting, the kind that sneaks under your jacket and reminds you you're alive. i just checked and it's 6.56°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the streets were empty, but the neon signs were on full blast, flickering like they were trying to tell me something.

"you gotta see the old train station," a drunk guy told me at a bar. "it's haunted by the ghosts of commuters past."

i didn't believe him, but i went anyway. it was beautiful in a crumbling, forgotten way. the kind of place that makes you want to write a poem or start a band. if you get bored, moscow and yaroslavl are just a short drive away, but honestly, this place had enough weird corners to keep me busy for days.

i wandered into a tiny coffee shop that smelled like burnt toast and ambition. the barista had a tattoo of a cassette tape on her arm and called me "dude" like we were old friends. *the coffee was strong enough to wake the dead, and i needed it after that night bus.

later, i found a vintage clothes store that looked like it had been curated by a time-traveling punk rocker. i tried on a jacket that smelled like someone else's memories and left with a scarf that felt like a hug. someone told me that the owner used to be a roadie for a famous band, but i couldn't confirm it. the rumor mill here is wild.

i ended the day at a dive bar where the jukebox only played 80s hits and the bartender had a pet iguana named larry. it was the kind of place where you could sit for hours and not feel judged. i heard that the bar used to be a secret meeting spot for local artists, but now it's just a place for people like me to hide from the world for a while.

this town isn't perfect, but it's got soul. it's the kind of place that makes you want to stay up all night talking to strangers and eating street food. if you're into that kind of thing, you'll love it here.

check out the local scene* on TripAdvisor or grab a drink at Yelp's top-rated spots. and if you're feeling adventurous, take a day trip to Moscow or Yaroslavl. but honestly, you might just want to stay here and see where the night takes you.
