Lost in Translation: Seoul Searching (and Slightly Confused)

okay, so i’m pretty sure this whole trip was a fever dream brought on by questionable kimchi and way too much Korean coffee. it all started with these… things. 1849904 and 1392003433. yeah, just numbers. totally random. but somehow, they felt significant. like a secret code to unlock the true Seoul. and the weather? i just checked and it’s… a dense, humid blanket. like someone wrapped you in a damp towel and said, “enjoy your day!” hope you like that kind of thing.

I landed in *Incheon feeling like a disoriented pigeon. the air was thick, buzzing with a chaotic energy. the numbers, 1849904 and 1392003433, kept popping into my head. i asked a woman selling tteokbokki if she knew what they meant. she just smiled, pointed at the food, and said something in Korean that sounded suspiciously like “eat more!” helpful.

My little Airbnb is in
Hongdae, which is… an experience. Think street performers, neon lights, and the constant soundtrack of K-pop leaking from every doorway. the neighbors are... enthusiastic. They're always practicing dance moves or setting up pop-up shops selling everything from handmade jewelry to vintage denim. Honestly, if you get bored, Busan is just a short bus ride away.

I spent yesterday wandering through
Myeongdong, which was a sensory overload. Skincare everywhere. Food stalls overflowing with… things. I'm pretty sure I ate something that was deep-fried and covered in cheese. It was a glorious, greasy mess. someone told me that the best street food is always found down the tiniest alleys. I took that advice to heart and found the most amazing little bibimbap place tucked away behind a fortune teller.

I’m trying to embrace the chaos, you know? letting go of the need to plan everything. but i keep feeling like the numbers, those two strings of digits, are trying to tell me something. a hidden message, a secret location… or maybe i’m just losing it from the lack of sleep and too much caffeine.

I heard that the best place to see a traditional
hanok village is Bukchon Hanok Village. and apparently, avoid the crowds around N Seoul Tower unless you enjoy being shoulder-to-shoulder with tourists. Trust me on that one. Also, don’t forget to check out some of the quirky independent shops in Gangnam. They are gold mines for unique souvenirs. I was looking at some beautiful pottery on Etsy the other night - there are some seriously talented artisans in Korea. Link to Etsy

Seriously, this city is a whirlwind. i haven't deciphered the meaning of 1849904 and 1392003433 yet, but i’m sure there’s a story there. or maybe it’s just a really complicated phone number. anyway, stay tuned… i’m off to find more
tteokbokki*. i also found this cool guide to hidden gems in Seoul Link to TripAdvisor.

And, hey, if you're really into Korean history, check out this website Link to Korea Tourism Organization. It's surprisingly good!

But for now, i’m just soaking it all in - the noise, the smells, the constant feeling of being delightfully lost. it’s a good kind of lost, though. a Seoul kind of lost. hope this chaotic ramblings provides some inspiration for planning your own trip! consider taking a local food tour - Link to Yelp Seoul Food Tours.
