Jacmel, Haiti: Where the Streets Sing and the Sea Whispers

jacmel’s been on my radar for years, but honestly? i only ended up here because a drummer friend swore the carnival masks were worth the detour. turns out, he wasn’t lying. the moment i stepped off the tap-tap, the air smelled like salt, paint, and something sweet i couldn’t place-probably the local coffee. speaking of, if you’re into that third-wave stuff, *café de la place is a must. locals say it’s the only spot where the barista remembers your name after one visit.

i just checked and it's 24.37°C there right now, feels like 24.87°C, hope you like that kind of thing. humidity’s at 77%, so yeah, bring a bandana or something.

walking down rue du commerce, i overheard two artists arguing about which gallery had the best papier-mâché. one swore by gallery esperance, the other said it was all hype and you should hit atelier jacmel instead. i went with the second tip-small place, but the owner let me watch him paint for an hour. no pressure to buy, just good vibes.

if you get bored, port-au-prince and jérémie are just a short drive away. though honestly, with the pace here, i doubt you’ll want to leave. someone told me the beaches near cyvadier* are unreal at sunset, but i haven’t made it out there yet. maybe tomorrow.
