disastrouss day in a place that won’t stop roasting you

@David Vance3/5/2026blog

i woke up to the kind of heat that makes you question if your soul is on fire, but hey, at least the sun’s not mad about it. like, 32.97 degrees celsius right now, which is basically being roasted by the sun while wearing a parka made of sunscreen. weird flex, but here we are.

so i grabbed my camera and started snapping, hoping the lens would capture something other than a mirage. it’s 17% humidity, which means the air is so dry it’ll probably strip paint off your camera. classic. i almost dropped my gear trying to drink water from a bottle because the condensation was acting like it was made of concrete.

i heard that the local eatery on main street serves mangoes so sweet they’ll make you question your life choices. someone told me that… though i’m not sure if they were high or just trying to sound helpful. either way, i took the gamble and ordered one. it was like biting into a cloud made of regret. also, the place has this weird vibe where everyone stares at the wall for 10 minutes before ordering. like, what’s up with that?

if you get bored, the desert outposts near kashmir are just a short drive away. don’t ask why. also, the neighbor across the street keeps playing tuba at 3am. if you ask me, that’s a crime against peace.

someone told me that the heat here is so bad, even the pigeons wear tiny sunglasses. i don’t know if it’s true, but i’ve seen a pigeon with a hatmade of bottle caps. it was tragic.

i saw this tag on yelp: "don’t come here if you hate humidity". classic. also found a tripadvisor review that said the street artist here paints with salt. i’m 80% sure that’s a joke, but i’m 20% weirdly curious. maybe i’ll swing by and ask.

here’s the thing: the weather here is a character. today, it decided to be a villain and sent a heatwave that makes even the dogs ignore the water bowl. i tried to edit photos in the shade, but the light was so harsh it made my shadows look like they’ve been through a war. also, my coffee went flat because the beans were soaked by the humidity. i’m now drinking lukewarm regret.

someone else warned me that the local markets here sell "authentic" spices that are basically just old dirt. i bought a bag of what looked like crushed sand and it tasted like my childhood. not a bad thing, honestly. maybe i’ll start a business.

the neighbors here are… existing. one couple keeps arguing about who gets to water the cactus in the middle of the night. another one plays bingo with a goat. it’s… wholesome? also, the street artist said the heat makes the colors fade faster. which is why he’s now obsessed with painting at midnight. i respect the hustle.

if you’re here for the chaos, great. the heat, the gossip, the weird mango smoothie - call it whatever you want. just bring a hat, a lot of water, and maybe a sense of humor. or don’t. it’s 100% optional.

p.s. check out this yelp for a sunset spot: kashmir-sunset-view. also, tripadvisor has a review about a place that sells "instant air" for 50 rupees. don’t fall for it. also, a forum thread said the best way to deal with the heat is to scream into a loudspeaker. i tried it. it worked. kinda.
