darwin's got a rep for being pretty chill, you know?
i just rolled into darwin and i'm already feeling the laid back vibes. i just checked and it's a pretty steamy 26 degrees there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the humidity's pretty high too, but *locals seem to just shrug it off and grab another cold one. if you're looking for a change of pace, kakadu national park is just a short drive away, and i heard the views are straight fire. someone told me that mindil beach is the spot for sunset, but i also heard it can get pretty crowded - you can check out the tripadvisor reviews for yourself and decide.
i've been wandering around the darwin waterfront and it's got a really cool, small-town feel. there are some great spots to grab a bite or a drink, like the tap on mitchell, which i found on yelp. i've also been checking out some of the local street art and it's pretty inspiring - you can see some of the best pieces on the darwin street art facebook page.
one thing to watch out for is the mosquitoes - i heard they can get pretty bad during the wet season. someone warned me about that at the local market, which is definitely worth checking out for some unique souvenirs and snacks. you can find more info on the darwin market website.
anyway, that's my two cents on darwin so far. it's definitely a city that's all about chilling out and enjoying the simple things. if you're thinking of visiting, i'd say go for it - just don't forget the sunscreen*.
