chiapas: where the sweat drips and the sketches come alive šŸŒ“šŸŽØ

chiapas. the name rolls off the tongue like salsa. i’m here for the murals the humidity and the way everyone here calls coffee "tinto" like it’s a sacred ritual. the weather’s a nasty oven mitt - 26c feels like 28c if you breathe wrong. my fault i left my sketchbook in a tuk-tuk. oops.

walking through markets here is like diving into a fever dream. colors bleeding into each other. the scent of spices hits you like a wave. and the colors… oh the colors. someone told me that painting a local dietitiarian’s catwalk sketch last week. she said the colors here are "unabashed" and i agree. unabashed chaos.

> "Pro tip: park near the cenote at dawn. locals swear the light’s golden enough to make your charcoal sketches look like magic," someone said.

> "Heard a guy arguing with a goat about parking… don’t ask me what the goat said," another warned.

neighbors? oh definitely palenque. dude’s ancient pyramids are basically his backyard. and belize is just a pee-wee drive down the metric freeway. if you’re bored here, you’re doing it wrong.

stopped by a beach bar. it’s called 'El Siqueiro' on Yelp but the sign’s in braille. guy there said the WiFi is 'spotty like a frisbee in a hurricane' - he’s not wrong. ordered a margarita. it’s 90% sugar, 10% lime, and 1% actual tequila. tasted like sweat and nectar. perfect.

> "Don’t trust the taxis near the port. Saw one try to steal a vendor’s embroidery machine last week."

> "Heard the best tacos are at some cart near the old train station. Bring pesos. Lots of them."

saw a street artist spray-painting a caiman flicking spit at a pyramid. he yelled something into his mic and vanished. classic.

the vibe here? earthy. gritty. weirdly kind. just like any bad tattoo you regret and love.
