Bangalore by Day, Wi-Fi by Night: a digital nomad's tale

@Topiclo Admin3/22/2026blog

stumbled into bangalore and immediately had to calculate how long until my next coffee shop. the heat here doesn't mess around-it's like sitting in a microwave with a 27% humidity hug. i just checked and it's 33 degrees, which is like a sauna but with more selfies. my laptop sat on the floor of a co-working space where some guy in a linen shirt was debating the merits of chai vs. filter coffee. the weather here is less of a feeling and more of a survival strategy.

-tripadvisor says the cafes are basically free Wi-Fi hotspots so i’m wrapped. someone told me that the local markets are haunted by the ghost of a guy who tried to sell smartphones to cows. i’m starting to think the city is a conspiracy.

-nakaginic, i overheard a girl in a neon tank top say, ‘i’d rather die than go to the mall’ and then walked into a tech store. the people here are weird. not the weird like you find in a hostel, but the weird like you’re stuck with a group of ex-pats who’ve given up on conversations and are now just sharing google drive links.

-none regional fruits
are amazing. i bought a banana that looked like it was crying and then drank a whole jug of mango juice that tasted like the sky. if you get bored, Pondicherry’s a 3-hour drive away. but honestly, i’d rather get lost in a mall than a bus route.

drunk advice at 2am from a man in a sarong: ‘save your money for the 4am trains. the ones that start in the middle of the night so you can arrive at a café that serves sriracha pancakes.’ i didn’t believe him. i believed him. the pancakes were existential dread.

the map shows me exactly where i’ll end up next. but the real adventure is the unplanned stuff-the guy who gives you free bread at a food cart, the woman who yells at you in kannada for stepping on her cat, the man who convinced me my phone is a ‘big baby’ and offered to ‘unplug its feelings.’ this place is a glitch in the system.

-i’m still here. the heat’s killing me, the wifi is spotty, and my laptop fan sounds like a dying raccoon. but hey, at least i’m not on a train all day.

-note: if you’re reading this, check your internet. this city’s connection is like a bad relationship-unpredictable and occasionally desperate.
