Wandering Through the Weird Heat of 1264551

so i'm standing in this place called 1264551, and the air feels like someone cranked the oven to 34.55°c and forgot to turn it off. it's dry as hell-humidity's only 15%-so every breath tastes like a desert breeze. i just checked and it's a crispy 32.13°c feels-like right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

this place is weird. not bad weird, just...off-kilter. the streets don't follow any grid i can figure out, and every corner seems to spit out a new sound-honking, chanting, someone's speaker blasting bhangra. i heard from a chai-wallah that the best samosas are at the corner stall near the old post office, but he also said the guy who runs it "might be a ghost." not sure if he was joking.

if you get bored, *patna and ranchi* are just a short drive away, apparently. locals say patna's got better street food, ranchi's got cooler hills. i haven't been, but that's the rumor.

walking around, i kept thinking about how the air pressure here is 1009 hPa at sea level but drops to 980 hPa on the ground. no idea what that means for my head, but it feels like my brain's floating a bit. maybe that's why everything seems slightly surreal.

"don't drink the water from the blue jug at the train station," a guy in a faded blue shirt told me. "bad juju."

not sure if that's true, but i'm not testing it. instead, i grabbed a lime soda from a cart near the market. it was so cold it made my teeth hurt in the best way.

this isn't a place for luxury travelers. it's for people who like their journeys a little gritty, a little strange. if you're into that, check out TripAdvisor's guide to offbeat Indian towns or maybe browse Yelp for hidden food gems nearby.

anyway, that's my messy take on 1264551. i'm off to find somewhere with air conditioning or at least a fan that doesn't sound like it's about to take flight.
