wandering accra after a heatwave

@Tobias King3/1/2026blog

i just checked and it's baking under a lazy sun there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the air feels like a warm hug from a stranger, and the humidity clings to my shirt like it’s trying to stay attached. i’m holed up in a cozy coworking spot in Osu, sipping cheap espresso while the city hums outside. someone told me that the street food near Osu is a gamble, but worth the risk, and honestly i’m already planning my next bite. if you get bored, Kumasi and Cape Coast are just a short drive away, so i might hop on a trotro later just to feel the rhythm of the roads. the neighbors here are a mix of jam‑session drummers and late‑night surfers, and they keep shouting about the best rooftop bar where the gin fizz is cheap enough to forget the rent. i heard that the night market on Oxford Street turns into a flash‑mob of street artists after midnight, and the vibe is pure chaos, exactly what i love when i’m trying to capture a moment with my camera. here’s a quick map so you can see where i’m parked:

i snapped a couple of shots of the sunset over the Independence Square, and you can see them below:

if you’re looking for a place to park your laptop and stare at the ocean, check out this local board for the lowdown, or peek at TripAdvisor’s top things to do in Accra for the tourist‑approved list. You can also join the conversation on the Accra expats group for real‑time tips. the weather report says it’ll stay hot till evening, so i’m packing a light shirt and a big bottle of water, because staying hydrated is the only way to survive the city’s heatwave. someone else mentioned that the best way to beat the heat is to wander the alleys of James Town and sip on fresh coconut water, which i’m definitely trying tomorrow. anyway, that’s the gist of my latest adventure, hope it gives you a taste of the chaos and calm mixed together
