Tangier's Weird Charm and Why I Almost Missed My Train

so here i am, standing in tangier with a half-empty coffee cup and a head full of weird vibes. the weather's playing games-it's 15.62°c right now, but feels like 14.57°c, so basically, bring a jacket if you're coming. humidity's at 51%, which means it's not sticky, just... crisp. like biting into a slightly underripe apple. i checked the forecast and it's gonna stay around there all day, so if you like that kind of thing, congrats, you're in the right place.

now, tangier itself? it's a mess in the best way. the medina's like a maze designed by someone who's never heard of straight lines. i got lost three times today, once because i followed a cat that looked like it knew where it was going (spoiler: it didn't). but that's the charm, right? you stumble into a tiny shop selling spices that smell like they've been there since the 70s, or you find a cafe where the guy behind the counter insists you try his "secret" mint tea recipe. (it's not secret. it's mint and sugar. but he's proud, so you nod and sip.)

i heard from a guy at the hostel that the grand socco is where all the "cool" locals hang out. i went, and honestly? it's just a big square with people selling stuff and kids chasing pigeons. but then i overheard two old men arguing about whether the best tagine in town is at restaurant x or restaurant y, and suddenly it felt alive. like, this is tangier gossip, and i'm here for it.

if you get bored, *rabat and casablanca* are just a short drive away, but honestly, why would you leave? tangier's got enough chaos to keep you entertained for days. plus, the ferry to spain is right there if you suddenly decide you need a change of continent.

i almost missed my train here once because i was too busy arguing with a taxi driver about the fare. (he won. i paid. it was fine.) but that's tangier-it keeps you on your toes. someone told me the caves of hercules are worth the trip, but i haven't gone yet because i keep getting distracted by the street art. there's this one mural near the kasbah that looks like it's judging you, and i can't stop going back to it.

anyway, if you're into cities that feel like they're slightly off-kilter but in a good way, tangier's your spot. just don't expect it to hold your hand. it'll probably steal your map instead and laugh about it later.
