cebu’s hidden corners and why my camera hates humidity

@Ruby Wilder3/10/2026blog

i woke up late and still managed to get lost on the way to the beach. not that cebu’s hard to navigate, it’s just that my gps kept glitching and i ended up at a fruit stand instead of the exact spot.

seriously though, the weather here is chef’s kiss. i just checked and it's 25.06 degrees celsius with 83% humidity, which is basically a sauna wrapped in a towel. my camera got soaked by the time i left, and now it’s probably plotting to quit. don’t have the heart to film another photo.

side note: i heard that the guy running the street food stall on street 34 sells mango sticky rice that’s so good it could make you question your life choices. i’m 60% sure he’s a magician.

if you get bored, manila is just a short drive away. i didn’t drive though because my car hates heat. it’s like, please no, every time we hit 25 degrees.

i saw someone post on a local board that the old copshop area has a mini art exhibit now. truth or lie? who knows. someone else said the locals whisper about a ghost haunting the place, but i didn’t believe them until i saw a flicker in the mirror at 3 am. maybe don’t ask me about it.

here’s what the neighborhood looks like:

cebu street
cebu beach
cebu architecture

someone told me that the nearest coffee shop has the best kopi tubig in the city. i went there and it was...okay? i don’t know. i’m a coffee snob, but even i blinked. maybe they’re onto something. check it out on tripadvisor.

pro-tip: if you want to avoid the 83% humidity, go to the rooftop bar instead. they have AC and a view of the ocean. it’s cheaper than a yelp review that says this place is a scam. totally trust yelp.

i also saw a sign for a vintage clothes shop on the way. i didn’t go because my budget student jeans are already screaming at me. but if you’re into that, it’s worth a look. dig around on unsplash for more pics of cebu’s vibe or something.

oh, and before you go, i heard a disillusioned consultant tried to start a blog about cebu’s street food and quit after 3 days. maybe don’t do that. or maybe do it. who knows?

ps: this post might have more hot takes than a diamond in the rough. i’m not sure anymore.
