Buenos Aires Brain Dump: Numbers, Numbers Everywhere

okay, so i'm still processing. i landed in buenos aires yesterday, and honestly? it's a sensory overload in the best way possible. i saw these numbers - 952865 and 1710058382 - and just… felt a pull. who even has that many things?! it made me want to just wander. the weather here is…peculiar. i just checked and it's hovering around a balmy 18 degrees Celsius, but it feels cooler. like a gentle hug, not a full-on embrace. maybe it’s the humidity at 51%, clinging to you like a flirtatious stranger. the pressure is 1016, which i guess is normal, and the winds aren't doing anything to stir up the dust - which is a relief.

finding a decent empanada spot was my first mission, naturally. someone told me that El Sanjuanino is the place to go - apparently, it's a local institution. i’m planning a trip to La Boca later in the week, but i'm hearing conflicting things about safety. a local warned me to stick to the main tourist areas, especially after dark. always a good idea, right? i'm prepping my trusty backpack - always carrying a portable charger, a good camera (been meaning to upgrade, honestly - maybe check out some reviews on DPReview), and a notebook. you know, the essentials.

my hotel is in Palermo Soho, which feels like a mix of bohemian vibes and trendy cafes. super walkable. i’m trying to embrace the chaos, which is definitely a survival skill here. the neighbors are a fascinating bunch - a mix of artists, students, and people who seem to be perpetually late for something. if you get bored, San Telmo is just a short ride away, filled with tango and antique shops. i'm hoping to catch a tango show - heard they can be pretty intense.

I’m not really following a plan, per se. just letting the city pull me along. I’m working on a project documenting street art - Buenos Aires has amazing murals. Someone mentioned there’s a whole scene in Villa Crespo - it's definitely on my list. Also trying to learn some basic Spanish. My attempts are… entertaining, to say the least.

I spent yesterday just wandering, getting lost in the colourful streets. i stopped at a cafe and overheard a conversation about the upcoming football match - apparently, it’s a big deal. there’s a definite energy here, a pulse. i heard that the best alfajores - those little dulce de leche cookies - are at Cafe Tortoni. definitely adding that to the itinerary. and maybe a visit to a traditional parrilla (steakhouse).

Honestly, it feels like every corner holds a story. this place is a mess - a beautiful, vibrant mess - and i'm here for it. more to come as i navigate the tango, the steak, and the numbers. just trying to soak it all in before i inevitably get hopelessly confused. i'll probably frequent Yelp for recommendations - anyone got favourite spots to share? Thinking about checking out some photography tours - anyone know a good one? there are some great resources on Lonely Planet if you're planning a trip. And if you want to learn more about Buenos Aires history, check out the Buenos Aires tourism website.
