berlin through a laptop screen: digital nomad life at 16.6°c

the wifi here is as fast as the trains, which explains why i’m typing this at 3am with coffee from a takeaway cup labeled ‘CAVEATSKA SALEVA’-no idea what that means, but it’s got sugar in the shape of existential dread.

*keyboard chaos… i checked the weather again: 16.6°C, humidity clinging to my skin like julia st’s curls in argent’s sessions. ground level feels lighter than sea level-maybe the city’s trying to hide something behind all that grnd_level mystique. the pressure’s at 1003, which probably means nothing. neighbors included a cat that judges my life choices and a guy in a berlin techno hoodie who asked if i’d ever tried acid.

digital nomad pro-tips
• co-working coffee hop: check out
Cotoworks (yes, it’s as minimalist as your ig mood board). wifi’s free if you pretend you’re doing a startup.
• tap water’s free in berlin, but nobody drinks it. the späti near ysabelhaus has cold drinks colder than my laptop’s fan.
• public transport is a social experiment. don’t stare at strangers unless you want a story for your ghost-hunting bingo card.

overheard gossip
blockquotelike a local’s rant: "if you get bored," whispered a bartender at
Kantine, "Hamburg’s just a short train ride away. bring a passport and a therapist." another said the Hofjäger’s doner kebab could revive the dead. i’ve seen worse resurrectees.

walked past
• a street artist spray-painting a mural about capitalist anxiety. tipped him with a lifted train ticket.
• a woman arguing with a trash can in lichtenberg. winner unknown.

randomly bolded stuff: berlin’s RSM cinema is where i watched Taxi Driver to feel old. the Kurfürstendamm street is paved with dreams and expired visas.

reviews
according to tripadvisor,
Kreuzberg Spice Lounge is "overrated, underwhelming." yelp says the same. local whispered the self-serve ceviche at Hutte August will make you regret everything. not sure why. maybe it’s the mussels.

final thoughts
berlin’s a city that feels like it’s waiting for its next great disaster. or maybe that’s just the wifi lagging at 92% humidity. i’ll keep working here until the trains stop or the coffee runs out. which would be sooner if i stopped staring at my screen and looked up.
