Windy Bayreuth: A Whirlwind of Clockwork and Coffee
okay, so bayreuth. where do i even start? i’m still processing. i woke up this morning to a feeling like someone had spun me around three times - that’s the weather, i guess. the air is doing this weird dance, all chilled and breezy, with a humidity that clings to you like a second skin. it’s like the sky is holding its breath. the pressure is…well, it’s there. 1007, if you’re into that sort of thing. i just checked and it's... a coastal chill, definitely not a sunbathing kind of day, but honestly? it suits the city.
i came here on a total whim. saw a ridiculously cheap flight and thought, ‘why not?’ i'm currently fueled by strong coffee and the sheer audacity of being anywhere other than my usual caffeine-soaked corner. bayreuth isn't exactly on everyone's travel radar, is it? that's kind of the appeal.
the architecture is insane. so much clockwork detail. it’s like the whole city is a giant, intricate timepiece. wandered around the old town, just getting deliciously lost. stumbled upon this tiny little bakery - seriously, the best pretzels i’ve ever had. i heard that the local beer garden - *Zum Goldenen Anker - is the place to be after dark, but it looked a little…intense during the day. someone told me that the locals have very strong opinions about the best type of pretzel. don’t mess with them on that.
i’m trying to soak it all in, you know? the history, the atmosphere… it’s a bit overwhelming, honestly. i spent a good hour just staring at the Marktplatz, watching life unfold. there’s this old guy who plays the accordion, and a bunch of kids chasing pigeons. pure joy.
the neighbors here are… quiet. polite. a little reserved. they seem to appreciate the history and the craftsmanship. i’m staying in this quirky little guesthouse just outside the city center - Pension zum Schwarzen Adler*. it's a bit rustic, but honestly, i wouldn't have it any other way. the lady who runs it makes the most amazing breakfast. if you get bored, Nuremberg is just a stone's throw away!
i’ve been trying to find a good spot to sketch - i’m working on some illustrations for my website. the light here is amazing, but i keep getting distracted by the pigeons. honestly, it’s a struggle.
considering this trip i may need to check out some photography workshops. maybe try learning to play the accordion - or at least appreciate it.
anyway, gotta go explore some more. the city’s calling. wish me luck. and maybe send coffee. lots of coffee. check out this useful resource for local events: Bayreuth Tourism
this little gem of a blog post recommends checking out Yelp for restaurants: Yelp Bayreuth
and if you need help finding great deals on accommodation, there's TripAdvisor for that.
