Rio de Janeiro's Humid Hug: Where Ferns Whisper and Coffee Snobs Cry

i just checked and it's...17.46°C right now, feels like 17.69° because the humidity's clinging like a wet towel. hope you like that kind of thing. i mean, it's not tropical sauna levels, but it's definitely not dry. it's the kind of air that makes your hair frizz and your skin feel like it's been dipped in lotion. perfect for ferns, i guess, but maybe not for my hair. someone told me that if you get bored, [cities] are just a short drive away. but honestly, with this kind of weather, you might just want to stay put and watch the city breathe. i heard that from a barista who looked like he'd seen a ghost. he said the coffee here tastes like it's been kissed by the humidity. i mean, i'm a coffee snob, but i haven't had the nerve to try it yet. maybe i'll just stick to the cold brew and pretend it's not happening. *the streets smell like wet concrete and something green*, something alive. it's the kind of smell that makes you think the city is sweating. and the neighbors? well, they're just other cities, really. a short drive away. but honestly, who needs them when you've got this? check out this view from my window:

brown rocky mountain under blue sky during daytime

. it's not exactly a mountain, but it feels like one today. and look at this hill covered in trees:

a hill covered in lots of trees next to a forest

. it's like the city is trying to hide behind its own green curtain. and then there's this satellite dish on a building:

a satellite dish sitting on top of a building

. it's watching us all sweat. i mean, seriously, who needs that kind of surveillance? i heard that from a guy selling street art. he said the best spots are where the locals don't look. but honestly, with this weather, finding a dry spot is the real challenge. if you're looking for a place to crash, maybe check out [local hostel name] on yelp. someone told me their showers are legendary. or maybe not. i heard that from a backpacker who looked like he'd seen better days. he said it was 'okay, but the humidity made everything feel...sticky'. i'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. anyway, if you're into that kind of thing, you can find it. and if you're not, well, you're probably already sweating. i just checked and it's...still 17.46°C. hope you like that kind of thing.
