Qingdao: Where the Walls Whisper Stories
so here i am, qingdao, and man, the air is thick enough to paint on. i just checked and it's feeling like 26.62°C, which is basically the same as the actual temp because the humidity's at 80% and it's making everything sticky. hope you like that kind of thing. i mean, it's not bad, but when you're carrying spray cans around, it kinda makes the paint dry faster? not sure, maybe that's a pro. anyway, i came here because someone told me that the street art scene here is getting noticed by international curators. and i heard that the old town has some hidden alleys with work from local legends. so far, i've been wandering around, looking for the perfect wall to claim.
the vibe here is... electric. literally, sometimes the power flickers, but that's when the magic happens, right? when the city lights go out, that's when the artists come out. i saw this one piece near the beer museum - yeah, they have a beer museum, check it out qingdao beer museum - and it was a mural of waves and beer bottles, all dripping with color. i tried to take a photo but my phone died. classic. for more top spots, check tripadvisor.
if you get restless, yantai is just a stone's throw over the hills. i haven't been yet, but i heard they have some cool coastal spots for art. but i'm not leaving until i find the perfect spot. maybe near the pier? the map says it's around here somewhere.
see, that's the area. lots of potential walls.
the locals are cool, but they keep asking me what i'm painting. i just nod and say, 'something abstract'. then they nod back and walk away. language barrier, but the art speaks, right? or maybe they think i'm a weirdo. either way, i'm here for the art. and the food. oh man, the food. i found this place near the train station that serves these dumplings that are so good, you'll forget about your art for a minute. yelp says it's the best. check it out if you're in the area.
i've been taking photos of everything, but i'm no photographer, so it's all messy. but that's the vibe, right? messy.
that's the sky today - kind of matches the humidity. and then
i don't know, maybe these owls are my spirit animals? they look chill, and that's what i need.
so, yeah, qingdao. if you're into street art, it's worth a trip. and if you're not, come for the beer and the dumplings. and maybe, just maybe, you'll catch me painting somewhere. or not. i'm a ghost. now, if you'll excuse me, i have a wall to conquer. and maybe another dumpling.
