so here i am, sitting in this weird little town called plainfield, illinois. it's like the kind of place where you’d expect to see a bunch of soccer moms in SUVs, but turns out there’s more going on than meets the eye. i rolled in here after a long drive, and honestly, the first thing i noticed was how quiet it was. like, crickets quiet. but then i started digging around, and man, there are some hidden gems here.

i just checked and it's 17.91°C right now, feels like 16.54°C. hope you like that kind of thing because it's perfect for wandering around without sweating your face off.

anyway, the first stop i made was at this little coffee shop called *the corner grind. it's one of those places where the barista knows everyone's name, and they have this weird obsession with oat milk. i got a latte, and it was actually pretty damn good. not gonna lie, i was expecting some generic chain coffee, but this was legit.

while i was there, i overheard some locals talking about the historic downtown. apparently, it's got this old-timey vibe with brick buildings and little shops. so i wandered over there, and yeah, it’s cute. not gonna win any awards for excitement, but it’s got charm. i popped into a vintage store called rusty relics, and let me tell you, if you’re into retro stuff, this place is a goldmine. i almost bought a lava lamp, but then i remembered i’m trying to travel light.

now, here’s the thing about plainfield: it’s not exactly a bustling metropolis. but if you get bored, joliet and naperville are just a short drive away. joliet’s got this cool old prison you can tour, and naperville is like the bougie cousin of plainfield with fancy restaurants and a riverwalk.

someone told me that the best pizza in town is at giordano’s. i heard that it’s not just any pizza-it’s chicago-style deep dish. so i went there, and holy moly, it was a cheese explosion. i could barely move after eating it, but it was worth it.

oh, and if you’re into nature, there’s this park called caton farm park*. it’s got trails and a lake, and it’s a good spot for a picnic or just chilling out. i saw a bunch of people walking their dogs there, and it felt like one of those wholesome small-town moments.

all in all, plainfield isn’t the kind of place that’ll blow your mind, but it’s got its own vibe. it’s the kind of town where you can slow down, grab a good cup of coffee, and just enjoy the little things. and honestly, sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
