misthaven: where the fog eats your socks

i just checked and it's *damp right now, hope you like that kind of thing. got here chasing some assignment about atmospheric pressure or something-turns out the locals call it ‘the eternal sigh’. misthaven’s got this vibe where everything feels slightly wet and mysterious. humidity’s at 93%, which means my camera lens fogged up every ten minutes until i started wiping it with my sleeve. the old clock tower downtown is perpetually weeping, locals swear it’s haunted by a drummer who lost a stick here in ’04.

“don’t walk under the hanging gardens at noon. the mist plays tricks with your depth perception. saw a guy walk into a lamppost once-thought it was his grandma.”

that’s what this sketchy guy in a raincoat told me at beanbag & brew. also heard from someone that the pressure drops after dark-something about the
sea level being higher than the ground? who knows, but my ears popped like soda cans. if you get bored, glimmerwood and pebbleton are just a short drive away, though pebbleton’s famous for its mud pies so… maybe not.

“the mist ain’t just fog, kid. it’s memories. people say if you stand still long enough, you see echoes of folks who got lost here.”

staying at the damp sock inn-name’s self-explanatory. room 7 smelled like wet wool and old dreams. tried capturing the vibe with my gear:
- nikon d850 (bless its heart, survived the humidity)
- vintage 35mm lens (cost more than my rent)
- lens wipes (my new best friends)

the local market sells these weird crystal things that ‘absorb bad energy’-i bought one. now it just sits on my desk looking judgmental. also tried the mushroom stew at fog kitchen-tasted like earth and regret.

heard from a guy in a pub that the
temperature never changes-17.52°C feels like 17.76°C, which is basically room temperature for a ghost. he said the ground level pressure is lower than sea level, which makes your head feel floaty. tried to fact-check it on weather whispers but the site just loaded a static image of a cloud shrugging.

met this retired drummer at the sound of silence bar-he said the mist muffles rhythm so bad, his band once thought a seagull was their bassist.
the alley behind the pub has these murals that change color when it rains. i tried to get a shot but my lens fogged over again.

someone told me the
grnd_level* here is cursed-drop your keys and they vanish into the mist forever. saw it happen to a tourist. also, the minimum and maximum temperature are the same? creepy. if you go, bring a dehumidifier and a sense of existential dread. misthaven tourism board has ‘survival tips’ but mostly just tells you to bring a towel.

p.s. the number 229024 on my ticket? turns out it’s the room number where the ghost drummer lives. i knocked. no answer. only muffled cymbals.
