Luang Prabang: Where the Heat Hits Hard and the Backpacks Are Light

woke up to this heat... there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. 34.86°c feels like 33.41, so yeah, it's basically a sauna with a view. i mean, the humidity's only 24%, but that doesn't make the sweat any less real. grabbed my cheap ass backpack and headed out, because hey, budget student life. the locals? they just move slower, probably. someone told me that the monks collect alms at dawn, but honestly, i was too busy trying not to melt. if you get bored, vientiane or hanoi are just a short drive away, but honestly, why leave paradise? unless you need air conditioning.

*gear list:
- one slightly ripped backpack (bought for $15)
- a bottle of water that's seen better days
- a map that's mostly useless
- a phone charger that might explode
- a notebook filled with half-baked ideas

gossip corner:
- someone told me that the night market has the best sticky rice, but i heard it's overpriced. drunk advice from a tuk-tuk driver: 'eat here, not there, unless you like paying tourist prices.'
- i heard that the royal palace museum is 'meh' unless you're into old buildings.

where to actually go:
- check out the kuang si waterfalls on tripadvisor, but don't expect it to be empty.
- yelp for some local street food, but be prepared for the 'mystery meat' factor.
- the local board has some hidden gem cafes, but you'll need to ask a real local, not me.

photos:*

A building with a thatched roof and a flag on top of it

A man standing in front of a sign with a mountain in the background

A group of people standing on top of a wooden bridge

so yeah, that's luang prabang in a nutshell. hot, cheap, and full of surprises. or just full of sweat. you decide.
