Jendouba: A Rainy Day in Tunisia's Green Heart
jendouba's been on my radar for a while now-mostly because it's the kind of place you never hear about unless you're already in the area. and here i am, boots soaked, umbrella inside out, staring at a town that feels like it's hiding secrets in every alley. the weather? well, it's doing that whole "i can't decide if i'm winter or spring" thing. 4.31°c and feels like -0.48°c. basically, it's cold enough to make you question every life choice that led you here, but not so cold that you can't still walk around and pretend you're fine. i just checked and it's basically freezing there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the town itself is small, but it's got this quiet charm-like it's waiting for someone to notice it. there's a university, a few cafes that probably serve decent coffee if you're into that, and a market that smells like spices and wet earth. if you get bored, bizerte and tabarka are just a short drive away. someone told me that the best thing to do here is just walk around and get lost. apparently, that's how you find the good stuff-like the little bakery that sells msemen so flaky it'll make you cry, or the old man who sells honey from his backyard hives. i heard that the locals here are super friendly, but also that they might invite you to their house for dinner and then expect you to stay for three hours. fair warning. anyway, here's a map so you don't end up as lost as i did.
and because i'm a sucker for visuals, here are some images that probably don't do it justice but hey, it's something.
if you're into offbeat travel, jendouba might just be your next stop. or not. but either way, it's worth a look.
