Dresden: Rain, Rumors, and Really Weird Statues

okay, so, i’m pretty sure i’m running on fumes and lukewarm coffee. i landed in dresden yesterday, and honestly, it’s… intense. the air feels thick, like someone’s been brewing a really strong tea for a week. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the humidity is clinging to everything - my camera, my hair, my sanity. it’s 1007 pressure, which is… unsettling.

i was aiming for a chill, ‘documenting the decay’ vibe, you know? but dresden is throwing me a curveball. the architecture is… dramatic. like, seriously, it’s all angles and sadness. and the statues? don’t even get me started. there’s this one, a woman with her arms raised, facing the river. someone told me that she’s a memorial to lost souls, but honestly, she just looks like she’s trying to signal a passing *zeppelin.

found a decent place to crash - a tiny Airbnb above a bakery. the smell of fresh bread is a godsend. it’s a bit of a trek to get to, but the
Altstadt* is worth it. seriously, the cobblestones are insane. i nearly faceplanted twice.

spent the afternoon wandering around the Frauenkirche. it’s… breathtaking. rebuilt after the war, it’s a symbol of resilience, i guess. i overheard some tourists saying it felt ‘haunted’ - which, you know, in a city that’s seen so much, that’s not exactly surprising.

found a little bar called ‘Zum Goldenen Anker’ - it’s tucked away on a side street. the bartender, a guy named klaus, was giving me some seriously cryptic advice. he said, and i quote, ‘don’t trust the pigeons. they know more than they let on.’ i’m not sure what that means, but i’m taking notes. i checked Yelp and it has 4.3 stars.

seriously, the rain started again. it’s a persistent drizzle, the kind that seeps into your bones. i’m thinking of grabbing a currywurst - apparently, that’s a must-do in dresden. i heard that the one at the ‘Curry 36’ is legendary, but also ridiculously crowded.

if you get bored, prague is just a short drive away. or munich, if you’re feeling fancy. i’m trying to keep my budget tight, so i’m mostly sticking to street food and exploring on foot. i’m using TripAdvisor to find hidden gems - it’s surprisingly helpful.

and the neighbors? they’re… quiet. mostly. there’s this old woman who sits on her balcony every morning, knitting. she just stares at you, like she’s judging your life choices. it’s unsettling, but also kind of charming.

i’m heading to the Zwinger museum tomorrow - apparently, it has some incredible art. i’m hoping it’ll distract me from the pigeons and the rain.

ps. if anyone knows anything about those statues, hit me up. i’m genuinely intrigued.
