Cozumel Diaries: When Indie Films Meet Coconut Trees
just landed in cozumel and already my phone is buzzing with director vibes. the air feels like a sauna at a silent film premiere - 24c and sticky enough to make you think you’re halfway through a sweaty montage rehearsal. checked the forecast - it’s a steam bath in a bikini top. someone left their umbrella here.
"hey, the bartender said there’s a telenovela crew camping by the cenote. if you hear whispers at el coco, duck.
meandering up carmen del monte, past the chicken bus grumbling about phantom breakdowns. someone told me that el coco cantina has a hidden film crew this week. not sure if it’s true or just the rum drink talking. but i’m here for the mystery. maybe i’ll ask the guy in the sombrero hat to point me to the nearest cell phone rental.
weather’s a beast. humidity like wearing a raincoat under the sun. but hey, at least the gecko tourists are all crouching low. tried to film a spiral staircase sequence at that wall mural near the harbor. got a standing ovation from a group of middle schoolers. or maybe just pity.
