a chaotic weekend in a city that never sleeps (but i did)
i landed here with zero plans and a head full of jet lag. the first thing i noticed? the air felt thick-like it was holding its breath. someone told me that the locals say it rains every 37 minutes, but i didn't believe it until i got soaked walking to a cafe that smelled like burnt toast and nostalgia.
anyway, the weather's doing that thing where it can't decide if it wants to be sweater weather or full-on umbrella city. i just checked and it's 11°c and feels like 9.74°c there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.
"don't trust the bus schedule," a drunk guy at the bar said. "it's more of a suggestion."
i wandered into a vintage shop that looked like it hadn't been dusted since the '80s. the owner had a cat on her shoulder and called it "the manager." i bought a scarf that smelled faintly of cigarettes and regret. it's now my favorite thing.
if you get bored, [london] and [brighton] are just a short drive away. but honestly, i'd stay here and people-watch. the locals have this way of walking like they're late for something important but also completely unbothered.
i overheard someone say the best coffee is at a place called "the grindhouse." i went. it was closed. the sign said "gone fishing." classic.
i ended up at a pub that had a sign saying "free Wi-Fi" but the password was "noneofyourbusiness." the bartender laughed when i asked. i liked that.
anyway, i'm still here. still lost. still loving it.
*local tip:* if you see a red door with a brass knocker, knock. someone might invite you in for tea. or tell you to get lost. either way, it's an adventure.
