Zagreb Vibes: A Whirlwind Adventure in Croatia
okay, so zagreb. where do i even begin? i just landed, and the air feels… thick. like someone left a damp towel in the sun. i’m not kidding. and the numbers i saw? 527012 and 1643239180. what even is that? some sort of weird, digital breadcrumb? who knows. it’s zagreb, baby. totally unpredictable.
temp: 3.9°C, feels like 0.22°C. yeah, it’s chilly. the wind’s doing this funny little dance around the corners of buildings, kicking up leaves. it’s not brutal, but definitely requires layers. i just checked and it's… a grey drizzle, barely there, but persistent. hope you like that kind of thing.
first impressions? the buildings are seriously cool. a mix of old and new, like someone threw a bunch of architectural styles into a blender and hit puree. there’s this gorgeous blue metal door i stumbled upon just wandering around - seriously Instagrammable.
my first stop was the main square - st. mark’s square. it’s buzzing, even with the drizzle. tour groups everywhere, street performers trying to make a buck, and the smell of something delicious wafting from a nearby cafe. i heard that the gelato place on the corner is legendary - someone told me that they have flavors you’ve never even dreamed of. i’m definitely checking that out later. maybe check out some local tours on TripAdvisor beforehand - they often have insider tips.
“Avoid the Konoba Marka. Someone warned me their 'specialty' stew tasted suspiciously like something left under a gym locker.”
weird, right? i'm keeping that in mind.
gear list for a quick zagreb trip:
comfortable walking shoes (seriously, you’ll do a lot of walking)
a waterproof jacket (this weather!)
a universal adapter (just in case)
a good camera/phone for all the pretty buildings
* a reusable water bottle (stay hydrated!)
and the people? they seem… reserved, but friendly enough. if you get bored, Split is just a short train ride away! it’s supposed to be gorgeous. i’m thinking of heading there next. you can find train schedules and book tickets on GetByBus.
overheard gossip at a cafe: apparently, there’s a hidden courtyard somewhere in the old town with the most amazing coffee. no one could actually pinpoint where it was, though. typical.
pro-tip: don’t be afraid to get lost. some of the best things i’ve found have been down random side streets. just be aware of your surroundings, you know? like anywhere else.
temp_min: 3.9°C, temp_max: 3.9°C. seriously, it’s stuck at 3.9. this weather is giving me life. in a slightly damp, grey kind of way.
heading to a local market later to grab some snacks. fingers crossed i don’t accidentally buy a live chicken. you never know in these situations. i'm also planning on checking out some street art - there's a surprisingly vibrant scene here. you can find some cool local spots on Yelp.
