St. Petersburg, Florida: Salty Air and Weird Vibes
okay so i just got back from st. petersburg, florida and it's...well, it's something else. the weather was like 22 degrees and felt like 23, which is basically perfect for wandering around in flip-flops and pretending you're on vacation forever. humidity was at 92%, so yeah, my hair was a disaster, but whatever, it's part of the charm, right?
first thing i noticed? the murals. like, everywhere. i heard from a barista that the city actually pays artists to paint the sides of buildings, which is either genius or a waste of tax dollars, depending on who you ask. i'm leaning toward genius because it makes walking around feel like you're in a living art gallery. check out the downtown murals on tripadvisor if you want to see what i'm talking about.
now, about the food. someone told me that the best cuban sandwich in town is at this hole-in-the-wall called *the Floridian. i went, and honestly? it was fine*. but the vibe was 10/10, so i'd go back just to people-watch. if you're into seafood, the wharf seafood is supposedly the spot, but i heard from a drunk guy at a bar that it's overpriced and you're better off hitting up the local fish market and grilling your own catch.
if you get bored, tampa and clearwater are just a short drive away. i didn't make it to either, but i heard tampa's got a killer nightlife scene and clearwater's beaches are...well, they're beaches. what more do you need?
the weirdest part? the locals. they're either super friendly or suspiciously quiet, and i couldn't figure out the pattern. maybe it's the heat. or maybe it's just florida being florida. either way, it's worth a visit if you're into quirky, artsy towns with a side of humidity.
oh, and before i forget: if you're planning to go, bring sunscreen. like, a lot of it. and maybe a hat. and definitely a sense of humor. you'll need it.
