run in this city’s chaos, don’t let it catch you off guard

@Julian Moss3/5/2026blog

well i guess i should start by saying this place is like a never-ending surprise. i was out running in the morning and the weather was that weird in-between cold and not thing. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. the temperature was 14.06 which is like if someone took a spoonful of ice and left it in a sauna. not sure if that's a metaphor or just the weather playing games. the humidity was 38 which is practically a desert in a city that's supposed to be green. i swear the air felt like it was holding its breath. but hey, if you get bored, the next town is just a short drive away. not the most exciting excuse, but it's true.

someone told me that the local markets here are a disaster. i heard that the food vendors here are either geniuses or people who forgot to pay their bills. i didn't believe it at first but then i tried the street food. it was like a gamble. i ended up with a dish that tasted like a secret recipe someone tried to hide. the chef told me it was his grandma's recipe. i don't know if that's true or if he was just trying to sound fancy.

the neighbors? they’re the kind of people who’ll let you borrow their umbrella if you ask nicely. i met a guy who’s a freelance photographer and he was taking pictures of the same old building for the 10th time. i asked him why and he said it's because the light was perfect. i don't know if that's a real reason or if he's just trying to justify his life choices.

i saw a review on TripAdvisor that said the city's historic sites are overrated. i heard that from a drunk tourist who was convinced the old tower was a hotel. i don't know if that's true or if he was just high. another review on Yelp said the coffee here is the worst. i tried a place called brew master and the barista gave me a cup with a note that said 'this is a trap, leave now.' i didn't believe it but the coffee was so bad it made me question my life choices.

there's this place called the red fort that's supposed to be amazing. i walked by it and it looked like a big old brick wall with a few cool sculptures. i didn't go in because i was too lazy. i also saw a street artist who was painting a mural of a cat wearing a hat. i asked him why and he said it's because the cat is a symbol of freedom. i don't know if that's true or if he's just trying to make it deep.

i took some pictures of the local architecture. one of them is a green mountain under white clouds during daytime. another is white and brown concrete houses near green trees. not sure if that's a good thing or if i'm just bad at finding beauty. the weather was so unpredictable that i ended up getting a sunburn and a cold at the same time. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

the map shows this area is surrounded by hills and a river. i tried to find a trail but it was closed. i heard that from a local who was clearly annoyed. he said it's because of some mess that some tourists left. i don't know if that's true or if he's just a grumpy person.

i also found a local board on Reddit that had some tips. they said the best way to explore is to follow the smell of food. i tried that and ended up in a place that served something called 'mystery curry.' it was either amazing or a disaster. i can't remember.

if you're thinking of coming here, don't be fooled by the pretty pictures. it's messy, chaotic, and weird. but that's what makes it interesting. i also saw a review that said the locals are unfriendly. i heard that from a tourist who was clearly drunk. i didn't believe it but then i asked a lady on the street for directions and she gave me a map and a strange smile. maybe she was just being nice.

the weather here is like a mood swing. one minute it's 14 degrees, the next it's 12.51. i don't know if that's the weather or if the city is just trying to mess with me. the pressure was 1015 which is normal, but the sea level was 1015 and the ground level was 705. i don't know what that means but it felt like the ground was trying to tell me something.

i took another picture of a statue of a man sitting on a throne in front of a building. it looked ancient and I couldn't figure out why it was there. maybe it's a symbol of something. maybe not. i also saw a yellow busker playing a guitar near the river. he was clearly drunk and playing off-key songs. I asked him if he was a professional and he said no, he was just trying to pay the bills. I don't know if that's true or if he's just being dramatic.

there's this place called the coffee shop that some people say is the best. I heard that from a person who was clearly a coffee snob. I tried it and the coffee was okay. not great, not terrible. it was like drinking a memory. the barista was super friendly and told me the secret to making it was to add a drop of honey. I don't know if that's a real secret or if he was just being helpful.

the locals here are a mix of people. some are friendly, some are annoying, and some are just existing. I met a yoga instructor who was teaching a class in the park. she was wearing socks with cartoon characters and she was telling people to breathe. I thought it was weird but then I realized it was exactly what I needed. the class was free and I was too tired to care.

i also saw a review on a local forum that said the city is plagued by traffic. I heard that from a couple who were arguing in the car. they were yelling about how long it took to get to the mall. I don't know if that's true or if they were just having a bad day. the traffic light was red for 10 minutes and I was stuck in a line of cars that were moving slower than a snail.

i ended up staying in a hostel that was recommended on Yelp. the reviews said it was cheap and clean. I didn't believe it but it was. the room was small but it had a view of the city. i looked out the window and saw the red fort and the river. it was like a little piece of paradise in a chaotic place.

the weather was so unpredictable that I ended up bringing a raincoat and a hat. even though it didn't rain. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

i also found a map that shows the nearest cities. if you get bored, they are just a short drive away. not the most exciting excuse, but it's true. i took a picture of the street where the yellow busker was playing. it was a narrow alley with colorful graffiti. i don't know if that's a good thing or if it's just a sign of the city's vibe.

i tried to write this post while sitting on a bench in the park. the wind was blowing and the temperature was fluctuating. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. i also looked at the ground level of 705 and thought about how low it was. maybe it's a metaphor for something. maybe not.

i took one last picture of the green mountain under white clouds during daytime. it looked peaceful and I wondered if it was real or if I was just imagining it. i don't know.

the people here are interesting. some are passionate about their work, some are just surviving, and some are just trying to find their place. i met a student who was studying history and he was carrying a book that looked like it was from the 1800s. he told me it was his grandpa's journal. I asked him if he ever read it and he said no, he just liked the cover. i don't know if that's true or if he was being philosophical.

i also saw a review that said the city has great food but bad service. I heard that from a person who was clearly a foodie. they were complaining about a restaurant that didn't give them change. I didn't believe it but then I tried the same place and the service was just as bad. the waiter was distracted and kept looking at his phone. i don't know if that's a common problem or if it's just that specific place.

the city has a unique energy. it's not perfect, it's not beautiful, but it's real. you can feel the history in the air, the noise, the smells. it's messy, chaotic, and sometimes frustrating. but that's what makes it human.

if you're thinking of coming here, don't be afraid of the chaos. embrace it. the weather might mess with you, the neighbors might confuse you, and the reviews might lead you to disaster. but that's part of the experience.

i ended up leaving the city with a backpack full of memories and a head full of questions. i don't know if i'll come back. maybe. maybe not. i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

p.s. if you're reading this, thanks. i wrote this while half-asleep and it still felt important. maybe that's the point.
