Rome: My Spray Paint and the Damp Soul of the City

okay, so i landed in rome with a bag full of spray cans and a head full of ideas. the air? i just checked and it's that damp chill that sneaks into your bones, so bring a sweater if you're coming. feels like 12.43°C but the actual temp's 13.65, humidity at 52%-that weird in-between where it's not cold enough to freeze you but not warm enough to feel alive. my mission: find walls that haven't been claimed by tourists or tags yet.

the city’s a maze of ancient rubble and fresh plaster, and if you get restless, *ostia antica is a short drive away for some real-deal ruins. but i'm here for the urban canvas.

that’s the tiber, looking all moody under the gray sky. perfect backdrop for some existential spray art.

then, the first gossip i picked up:

"heard from this old painter near the colosseum that the best spot is actually the back alleys near piazza navona. tourists don’t go there, but locals do. they respect the art, not just the ruins."

good intel. found a crumbling brick wall behind a bar, just as i was about to hit it with some color:

"yo, you know the owner? he’s cool with art, but hates tags. keep it real, no names. and if you need cheap supplies, there’s a hardware store near termini station. tell 'the ghost' sent you."

also got a stern warning from a local artist at a café:

"and whatever you do, don’t even think about painting the colosseum. got cameras, fines, and they’ll ruin your life. there’s a 'legal wall' near pantheon. use that if you’re new."

so i checked out the colosseum on TripAdvisor and yeah, it’s majestic but not worth a 500 euro ticket for graffiti. instead, i scoped out the legal wall near the pantheon-found directions on this local boards.

that’s villa borghese*, just a walk from the pantheon. good spot to decompress among the plants after dodging carabinieri.

for supplies, i hit that hardware store near termini-found it on Google Maps. got my cans for 15 euro a pop. also found a decent paint supply review on Yelp for backup.

at night, the temp drops to 12.57°C, and i’m painting under a full moon:
