Portland, Oregon: Rainy Vibes and Coffee Runs
woke up to the sound of rain tapping on my window, typical portland. the weather report said it's about 7.67°c right now, feels like 5.35°c, and the humidity is sitting at 94%. i just checked and it's damp and chilly out there, hope you like that kind of thing. if you get bored, seattle and eugene are just a short drive away.
i heard from a barista at this little place called heart coffee roasters that the best way to experience the city is to just wander without a plan. someone told me that the food carts at pod38 are a must-try, but also that the lines can be brutal. i ended up at a random spot called "the grilled cheese grill" because it looked cozy and smelled amazing.
"you gotta check out powell's books before you leave," a stranger said while waiting for his latte. "it's like a city block of books."
walking around, i noticed how green everything is, even in the rain. the trees are massive, and the moss on the sidewalks makes it feel like you're in a fairytale. i stopped by the portland art museum because a local on yelp said it was underrated, and honestly, they were right. not too crowded, and the exhibits were solid.
later, i grabbed a drink at a bar called "the bible club." it's themed like a 1920s speakeasy, and the cocktails are strong. i overheard someone say the service can be slow, but the vibe makes up for it. i'd say that's fair.
"don't miss the view from mount tabor," a guy at the bar insisted. "it's the best sunset spot in town."
ended the night at a food cart pod near hawthorne. got a bowl of ramen from a cart called "omikai," and it was exactly what i needed after walking around all day. the rain had stopped by then, and the city felt calm, like it was catching its breath.
portland's the kind of place where you can just exist without feeling rushed. it's not trying to impress you, but somehow, it does anyway.
