Lucerne: A Swiss Escape That's Part Fairytale, Part Headache

okay so i'm sitting here in lucerne, switzerland, and my brain's a little fried from trying to navigate these cobblestone streets with a suitcase that's definitely too big for this kind of trip. the numbers 2659811 and 1756544536? no idea what they mean-maybe my hotel room and the code to the mini bar, who knows. but the weather? yeah, that's real. it's 10.9°c right now, feels more like 9.6°c, and the humidity's sitting at 61%. basically, bring a jacket or embrace the chill like i did and regret it later.

lucerne is one of those places that looks like it was plucked straight out of a storybook. the kapellbrĂĽcke (that's the famous wooden bridge) is stunning, but also packed with tourists doing the slow-walk-of-death while trying to get the perfect Instagram shot. i overheard someone say the bridge burned down in the 90s and was rebuilt-kinda wild to think about. and the lion monument? apparently it's a big deal. someone told me it's "the most mournful piece of stone in the world" which sounds dramatic but hey, maybe it's true.

food here is...expensive. like, really expensive. i grabbed a sandwich from a bakery near the train station and it cost more than my entire dinner the night before in zurich. but the chocolate? worth every swiss franc. if you're into trying local spots, check out this bakery i stumbled into. the croissants are flaky, buttery perfection.

if you get bored, zurich and interlaken are just a short drive away. zurich's got that big-city vibe with all the museums and shopping, while interlaken is more for the adventure crowd-think paragliding and hiking. but honestly, lucerne's got enough charm to keep you busy for a couple of days.

i heard from a barista (who seemed way too cool to be working at 7am) that the best views of the alps are from mt. pilatus. she said the cable car ride up is terrifying but worth it. i haven't done it yet because i'm still recovering from the train ride here, but it's on my list.

a city with a river running through it

one thing i didn't expect? the swans. they're everywhere, just chilling on the lake like they own the place. i tried to take a selfie with one and it hissed at me. fair enough, i guess.

so yeah, lucerne. it's beautiful, it's expensive, and it's got a weird vibe where everything feels both super old and super curated. would i come back? probably. but next time, i'm bringing a bigger jacket and maybe a translator app because my high school german is not cutting it.

edit: someone in the comments mentioned the swiss transport museum. apparently it's a must-see if you're into trains, planes, and automobiles. or just want an excuse to sit down for a few hours.
