Lost in Lisbon: A Whirlwind of Tile, Rain, and Questionable Pastéis de Natas

okay, so lisbon. where do i even begin? i landed yesterday, and the air felt… damp. like someone had left a window open in a giant, cozy attic. i just checked and it's… drizzling, a fine mist settling over everything. hope you like that kind of thing. the air smells like salt and something vaguely floral, maybe jasmine? it's definitely not the desert vibes i was expecting after reading some travel blogs.

my phone binged with those crazy numbers: 2520611 and 1724532670. no clue what they are, but it felt… significant. like a code to unlock some hidden layer of the city. maybe it’s just my sleep-deprived brain making things up.

spent the morning wandering around the *Alfama district. seriously, the alleyways are a maze. i genuinely got lost at least three times, which was part of the charm, i guess. the buildings are covered in those amazing azulejo tiles - intricate patterns in blues and yellows. it’s visually overwhelming in the best way. i highly recommend checking out Visit Lisbon for a map and some historical context.

Neighbors are a mix. lots of locals chatting on doorsteps, the scent of grilled sardines wafting from open windows. if you get bored, Sintra is just a short train ride away - apparently, the palaces there are straight out of a fairy tale. i heard they can get packed, though.

grabbing a coffee at this tiny place near the
Time Out Market Lisboa. it's buzzing! everyone’s crammed in, but the energy is good. i heard that the Pastéis de Belém are the real deal, but someone told me that the ones at the Time Out Market are perfectly fine and way less of a queue. drunk advice, obviously.

gear list (because i’m a checklist person, even when i’m chaotic):
comfortable walking shoes (seriously, you’ll need them!)
a reusable water bottle (it gets warm even with the drizzle)
a portable charger (my phone dies way too fast when i’m snapping photos)
a phrasebook (my portuguese is… limited)
a good jacket - the weather changes on a dime.

went to this amazing little bookstore tucked away on a side street. i'm a sucker for old books. i'm always looking for hidden gems, and this place was definitely one. inside smelled like aged paper and quiet secrets. i’m heading to the *LX Factory* later - apparently it’s a cool hub for artists and designers. check out their website: LX Factory. someone warned me that it can get super touristy, though, so bear that in mind.

overheard gossip at a cafe: “someone told me that the tram 28 is a death trap, but it’s the only way to see the city properly.” interesting.

so yeah. lisbon. a little rainy, a little chaotic, and completely captivating. i’m off to find more pastéis de nata - even if i have to risk the dreaded tourist trap. i’ll probably be wandering around aimlessly tomorrow. it’s my favorite way to explore. maybe i’ll stumble upon the meaning of those numbers after all.

i'm seeing some cool work on Beiro Alto
