kobe: where my camera almost got mugged by a pigeon
so i just landed in kobe and my camera battery died before i even got out of the airport. classic. but hey, at least the air doesn't feel like someone's blowing hairdryer at me, right? i just checked the weather and it's doing this weird half-cold-half-mild thing, hovering around 13°C but feels like 12 - bring layers or you'll freeze at a street food stall, then sweat walking up a hill. humidity’s at 62%, so your hair will revolt. whatever, it’s not tokyo-level humidity, so i’ll take it.
spent yesterday loitering around *motomachi district with my beat-up nikon. this place is a goldmine for textures - peeling paint on old buildings, steam rising from ramen joints, locals glaring at me for blocking their sidewalk with a tripod. someone told me that meriken park is where all the cool kids take night shots, but also where pickpockets lurk near the ferris wheel. heard that from a drunk guy at a yakitori joint who kept insisting i should shoot pigeons because “they’re the real bosses.”
if your shutter finger gets tired, osaka and kyoto are basically next door - hop a train for an hour and pretend you’re in a different country. but honestly? kobe’s got this raw, unpolished vibe that’s way more interesting. plus, the beef here is legendary, though i heard a tourist got charged 300 bucks for a steak once. might wanna check yelp before picking a place. also, stumbled upon this tiny alley with street art that looked like it was done by a dyslexic alien - tripadvisor says it’s called “kobe’s hidden canvas,” but locals call it “the pigeon toilet.”
pressure’s at 1015 hpa, which i guess means it’s not gonna rain? or maybe it does, who knows. my camera fogged up twice already. also, some local warned me that the harbor bridge* is haunted by a photographer who died trying to get the perfect sunset. probably fake news, but i’ll avoid that spot at 6 pm just in case. the vibe here? chaotic but kind. even when i dropped my lens cap in a crowded market, some old lady picked it up and handed it back without scolding me. rare.
anyway, gonna try that beef tonight. if i survive, maybe i’ll post the pics on kobe travel forum. if not, tell my landlord the rent’s late.
