kanang’s got that 20-minute chaos you didn’t ask for

so last night i finally wandered into that one street food place no one talks about because the sign’s covered in algae and the waiter has one eye. the temperature was 26.44 and everyone there was either sweating bullets or staring at the dripping ceiling. i checked the weather app and it’s that exact number right now. humidity’s like holding a damp sponge to your face. i mean what’s the point of a real meal if you can’t smell your own sweat?

okay but here’s the deal: if you get bored, [cities] are just a short drive away. nobody here mentions that unless they’re trying to avoid a sudden storm. which makes sense because the last time i heard about rain here it was a meme. i heard that from some guy who was clearly high on something at the night market. he kept whispering about this ‘sacred pudding’ made from durian and expired cheese. i don’t know if it’s real but i’ll never trust pudding again.

so here’s the thing about kanang: the locals aren’t exactly chatty. if you ask them for directions they’ll just point and say ‘turn left at the monument that looks like a confused head.’ which is helpful in a way. the monument itself is a mess. locals swear it’s haunted. i asked a vendor if it was. he blinked and said ‘no but the pigeons there act like they’re talking in morse code.’ who knows?

i’ll link some places if you’re interested. yelp says the old cinema building has this weird microbrew bar. it’s called The Splat. tripadvisor has glowing reviews for the再造场 (that’s the local pronunciation for ‘recycled space’). local board has a thread about the abandoned mall being turned into a rave spot. i didn’t go but i saw a flicker of neon through the trees last night. could’ve been anything.

the weather’s been stuck at 26.44 for days. feels like the air is holding its breath. neigbhors? well if you walk down that hill you’ll see kids playing a game with bottle caps. they call it ‘the emperor’s new socks.’ i heard that from a woman who was definitely not paying attention when she told me. now she’s the mayor’s cousin. weird how that works.

爭議 here is real. someone told me the street market is where all the ghosts hang out. another person swore the tap water tastes like regret. i drank it and it didn’t. maybe i’m just lucky. or maybe i’m delusional after surviving that pudding myth.

if you’re into chaos kanang’s got you. the last time i checked the temperature was 26.44 again. i’m not sure if that’s a sign or just the universe yelling. the seagulls think it’s a countdown. i don’t know. i’ll keep drinking this sweet tea they sell at the beach. it’s probably haunted too but whatever.

here’s a map if you wanna find me:
