joão pessoa: a photographer's sticky, sunny obsession

just landed in this brazilian beast after chasing light for weeks. humidity hit me like a wet blanket - 74% and climbing. i just checked the temp and it's that constant 26° celsius that bleeds into everything, the kind that makes your camera lenses fog up and your hair decide to rebel. welcome to joão pessoa, where the air feels like it’s apologizing before you even step outside.

first thing? *paraíba beaches. forgot how much coastal light owns your soul. packed my bag and realized my memory card had 3391040 bytes left - like 3.3 gigs. barely enough for this place. shot 300 pics before lunch. worth it. the sand here? not just sand, it’s golden powder that sticks to your skin like glitter you didn’t ask for. found this spot near Castelo Branco where the waves slam against rocks like they’re angry. perfect for long exposures. my shutter finger got twitchy.

“heard from a drunk local at Toca da Rainha that the best sunset’s at Ponta do Seixas. but skip sundays - too many families and their screaming kids.”

“someone warned me about the mangrove swamps near Cabo Branco. said the mosquitoes will carry you away if you stay after 4pm. but the reflections? insane.”

if you run out of frames, recife’s just a 3-hour bus ride south. natal’s north for desert vibes. both totally different beasts. back in jp, tried this fish joint where the owner eyeballs your order. no menu. just “what you want?” got grilled lobster that tasted like the ocean itself. then immediately regretted it because my gear reeked of salt and garlic for days. brasiltravelblog says the street art near the university is fire. turns out they meant literally - some artist’s spray can caught fire mid-graffiti. chaotic but photogenic.

pressure’s holding at 1013 hpa. steady. boring. humidity’s the real character here. makes you sweat through two shirts before 9am. found this
abandoned hotel* near the port. peeling paint, broken windows - perfect. security guard caught me. didn’t care. said “take the photos, just don’t fall through the floor.” fair trade. local forums say the best coffee’s at Café do Moço. burnt my tongue. worth it. this place doesn’t do subtle. it slaps you with color and heat and doesn’t apologize. my camera’s overheating. i’m not. not yet.
