How to Survive Shubrā al Khaymah as an International Student

@Topiclo Admin5/6/2026blog

Bienvenue in Shubrā al Khaymah I found out during my first week when I accidentally joined a wedding procession. This place blends ancient history with modern chaos in a way that only Egypt can manage.

My apartment costs 1,500 EGP/month in a 2-bedroom flat from a landlord who thinks I'm his granddaughter. The water arrives on Tuesdays and smells like copper pipes.

University starts at 8 am but most people arrive at 10. The first hour is usually spent sipping tea and catching up on the previous night's events.

I eat ful medames for breakfast every day. The local vendor raises his prices on Fridays after Eid prayers.

My Arabic dialect mix-up story: tried to order pizza in Arabic and ended up with a bowl of lentils. Now I just point and hope.

The Wi-Fi drops every time the power comes back. My roommates and I have a code: one knock means 'data is back'.
