Buenos Aires Brain Dump: Numbers, Humidity, and a Whole Lotta Tango

@Topiclo Admin3/24/2026blog

okay, so, buenos aires. where do i even start? i landed yesterday and it's…a lot. the air’s thick, you know? like someone cranked up the humidity dial to eleven.

it’s 22.84c, feels like 23.71c - ugh, sticky. i just checked and it's…warm. yeah, warm. hope you like that kind of thing.

i got these two strings of numbers stuck in my head since the flight: 6316343 and 1076069666. no idea what they mean. maybe it’s some sort of code? someone's shopping list? i’m leaning towards a bizarre lottery number. also, the pressure’s 1010, humidity's a solid 97%, which is enough to make your hair do things it shouldn’t. the locals seem unfazed. they just keep sipping mate and chatting like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

my hostel is in *Palermo, which is buzzing. it’s this crazy mix of old mansions and trendy cafes. i heard that the best empanadas in the city are hidden down a tiny alleyway - someone told me that, anyway. probably a load of nonsense, but hey, worth investigating, right? i might try some tango lessons, feels like I need to embrace the energy here

.

the neighbors are a curious bunch. lots of artists and musicians seem to be hanging around, plus a few people who look like they’re scouting locations for some kind of film. if you get bored, Salta is just a short drive away. i’m thinking of a day trip. maybe. priorities are still being sorted, you know?

i’ve been trying to navigate the public transport - it’s…an experience. a local warned me about pickpockets on the subway, so i’m keeping my wits about me. apparently, it’s a common occurrence. standard stuff, i guess. I also heard that the Feria de Mataderos (a traditional fair) is amazing on Sundays. might check that out. you can find more info about local events here: Buenos Aires Tourism

gear list - because let's be real, every trip needs one:
Reusable water bottle (essential!)
Comfortable walking shoes (you'll need them)
Small backpack (for essentials and souvenirs)
Phrasebook (even if you only know a few words of Spanish)
Portable charger (trust me)
* Camera (duh!)

food-wise, i’m on a mission to find the best medialunas (croissants). so far, the results have been…mixed. i’ve been checking out some food blogs for recommendations: Yelp Buenos Aires

all in all, buenos aires is a sensory overload. noisy, colorful, and full of life. i'm just trying to soak it all in and not get completely lost. wish me luck. and maybe send empanada recommendations. Seriously.
