Buenos Aires: A Photographer's Messy Love Letter

well, here i am in buenos aires, and my camera is basically an extension of my hand. the city is alive, man. like, really alive. every corner is a potential shot, but also a potential distraction. i'm supposed to be on assignment, but i keep getting sidetracked by these old buildings and the way the light hits the streets just right.

that map up there? it's been my best friend. i've been wandering without a plan, just following the map and my gut. yesterday, i ended up in san telmo, and the market there was insane. so much color and movement. perfect for my style, which is... well, kind of messy. i like the imperfection.

the weather here? i just checked and it's 22.76°C with a humidity of 36%, so it's kinda dry and mild. if you're coming from a place where it's always raining, you'll love it. but if you're used to tropical humidity, maybe pack a moisturizer? haha.

someone told me that the service at la cabrera is hit or miss, but the meat is always good. i went there last night and the meat was indeed divine, but the waiter forgot my drink order. so, you know, take the gossip with a grain of salt. also, i heard that the tango show at el quijote is touristy but worth it for the experience. check out reviews on yelp if you want more opinions.

this is the city skyline from my hotel window. not bad, huh? i woke up at 5am just to catch the sunrise over the buildings.

if you get tired of the city, montevideo is just a short ferry ride across the river. i haven't gone yet, but the locals say it's a nice change of pace. here's a tripadvisor page for montevideo in case you're curious.

and of course, you can't leave without going to a milonga. this blog post has a list of the best ones. i went to one last night and it was electric. the energy, the music, the people... i took so many pictures i almost ran out of battery.

that's a tango dancer i met. she didn't mind me shooting, which was lucky.

another thing? the flea markets. someone warned me that the vendors in recoleta can be aggressive, but i found it charming. here's a guide to the best flea markets from the city's official site. i got some amazing old photos and a leather jacket.

this is from a market in san telmo. so much texture and history in every stall.

i'm running out of time because my flight is tomorrow, but i'm already planning my next trip. this place has a way of getting under your skin. if you go, don't just stick to the tourist spots. wander, get lost, and see what you find. that's where the real magic is.

tripadvisor has a list of the best restaurants if you need to fuel up. and for more tips, check out this forum on lonely planet.

that's all for now. hasta luego!
