Bogotá Brain Dump: Numbers & Sunshine (and a Little Confusion)
ok, so. bogotá. what even is bogotá? honestly, i’m still processing. i landed yesterday afternoon, and my brain feels like a scrambled egg. i’m pretty sure the combination of altitude and jet lag is doing a number on me. the numbers that greeted me? 3633341 and 1862822831. no idea what they mean, but they felt…significant. like a secret code to unlocking the city.
The weather is… something. i just checked and it's like a warm hug with a slight breeze. 32.35°C, feels like 33.39°C - whoa. the sun’s doing its thing, beating down on the cobblestones. humidity’s a little clingy at 43%, but it’s not unbearable. pressure’s 1010, which felt normal enough, and the ground level is a surprisingly high 922 meters! which, yikes, makes you feel a bit like you're floating.
my little corner of this city is… interesting. neighbors are mostly bustling families, always chatting, always making noise. it's a good kind of noise, though. a constant hum of life. i heard someone say that the local coffee culture here is legendary - something about beans grown in the mountains and roasted to perfection. i’m definitely planning on checking out a few cafes - maybe even a roastery.
i’m holed up in a little hostel near La Candelaria. it's… charmingly chaotic. everyone's a backpacker, a student, or someone chasing something.
i was wandering around today, trying to find some decent empanadas (a quest, let me tell you), and i overheard a snippet of conversation at a street vendor's stall. `
Someone told me that the best are down a tiny alleyway, near the old church. But watch out for the pigeons, they're aggressive.
` aggressive pigeons? okay, noted. i also heard a local complaining about the traffic- apparently, it’s a nightmare. someone else said, `
Don’t trust the taxis that approach you as soon as you step off the plane. Haggle the price beforehand, or they'll rip you off.
` good to know! i’m trying to embrace the unexpected, you know? that's the whole point of travel, right?
gear-wise? it’s pretty minimal: trusty backpack, reusable water bottle (essential in the heat!), a journal (for documenting the chaos), and my camera (duh!). i'm definitely planning to hit up a few street art spots - the murals here are insane. i’ve seen some incredible stuff already.
i'm thinking of taking a day trip to Guatavita - supposed to be a stunning lake with a rich history. i’ve seen a few recommendations on Yelp for tour operators, but i’m also considering just taking the bus to save some cash.
the numbers 3633341 and 1862822831 are still lingering. maybe they're some kind of postal codes, maybe they’re just random. whoever sent them, i’m not sure, but they’ve definitely added a little mystery to this initial Bogotá experience. if you get bored, Medellín is just a short bus ride away - lots of nightlife and cool vibes!
and honestly? i’m just soaking it all in. the smells, the sounds, the sheer energy of this place. it’s overwhelming, but in the best possible way. i found a cool article on Colombia Travel about safety tips - always good to be prepared. stay tuned for more updates… if i survive the aggressive pigeons.
