Berlin in the Mist: Coffee, Chaos, and a Few Too Many U-Bahn Rides

the air in berlin tastes like rain and exhaust fumes, and honestly? i’m here for it. just landed, still half asleep, and the weather app is telling me it’s a brisk *8°c* with 80% humidity. perfect hoodie weather. i just checked and it’s chilly and damp right now, hope you like that kind of thing.

first stop: coffee. because if i don’t caffeinate, i’ll start hallucinating berlin’s famous street art as actual portals to another dimension. found this little spot called Ben Rahim tucked under some train tracks. the barista looked like he’d just stepped out of a cyberpunk film, and the espresso? dark, bitter, exactly how i like my monday mornings.

walking around, i overheard a couple of locals debating whether the berlin wall fragments near East Side Gallery are "authentic enough" or just tourist traps. someone told me that the real history is in the cracks of the pavement, not the murals. i’m not sure i buy that, but it stuck with me.

later, i wandered into a vintage shop in mitte. the owner, a woman with more rings than fingers, warned me that the best currywurst in town is at a stall near Konnopke’s Imbiss, but only if you don’t mind standing in the cold. she wasn’t wrong. the sausage was worth the frostbite.

if you get bored, potsdam and leipzig are just a short drive away, but honestly? berlin’s got enough chaos for a week.

here’s a map so you don’t end up on the wrong side of town like i did:

body of water near trees

white and black house surround by trees

a row of chairs sitting in a dark room next to a window

time to find another cafe and pretend i’m writing something profound. or just people-watch. same thing, really.
