Berlin Brain Dump: 2800931 & 1056953902 (and the Weather!)

okay, so berlin. what even is berlin? i landed yesterday, and honestly, i feel like i’m wading through a dream that someone forgot to properly edit. the numbers - 2800931 and 1056953902 - they just popped into my head as i was checking into my hostel. no idea what they mean, but they feel important somehow. maybe a code? a delivery address? definitely a password i’ll never remember.

The weather? it’s… temperamental, to say the least. i just checked and it's a swirling mix of sun trying to peek through clouds that look suspiciously like they're plotting something. there's a definite chill in the air, hinting at that impending autumn energy. i'm wearing like five layers, which is a pro tip i learned the hard way in Prague.

“Don't trust the squirrels,” a guy at the cafe told me. “They’re organized.”

seriously. organized squirrels. who knew?

i’m staying in a little hostel near the *East Side Gallery. it’s a bit gritty, a bit loud, but perfectly suits my current state of chaos. the neighborhood is a melting pot of artists, students, and people who look like they’ve just stepped out of a Wes Anderson film. it’s got a really cool, rebellious energy. i heard whispers somewhere that the best street art is hidden down a certain alley - but i haven’t braved it yet. maybe later.

i spent yesterday wandering around, getting gloriously lost. i stumbled upon so many amazing things - hidden courtyards overflowing with greenery, tiny vintage shops crammed with treasures, and walls covered in art that practically hums with stories. i even found a hole-in-the-wall place that served the
best currywurst. i'm talking melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

people here are… interesting. you get a real sense of history mixed with a definite disregard for convention. i overheard someone say to their friend, “the best way to understand berlin is to completely misunderstand it.” which, honestly, feels pretty accurate.

there’s a lot of history here, obviously. you can’t walk five blocks without bumping into a reminder of the past - a remnant of the wall, a museum dedicated to a specific moment in time. someone told me that the
Museum Island is a must-see, but it’s always overflowing with tourists. my advice? go early. like, really early.

i’m planning on checking out a few of the
local markets this week. i heard that the Markthalle Neun has some incredible food stalls. and i'm hoping to find some unique vintage pieces. i’ve been on a bit of a vintage clothes kick lately - there's something about finding a piece of someone else's past to wear. it’s… empowering, i guess. there are some great resources on finding vintage in Berlin - check out Vintage Berlin for some starting points.

and the food! oh god, the food. seriously, i'm living off currywurst, pretzels, and surprisingly good vegan options. i saw this cute little bakery near my hostel that makes the most amazing apple strudel. i’m definitely going back for seconds.

i’m trying to embrace the chaos, to let myself get lost and discover things without a plan. it's a little scary, but also incredibly freeing. if you get bored,
Potsdam* is just a short train ride away. they say it's gorgeous.

basically, berlin is a beautiful, messy, and utterly captivating city. and i’m completely smitten. i’ll probably ramble some more later. good night, from a slightly sleep-deprived wanderer.
