Phoenix in 25 Degrees: My Digital Nomad's Messy Love Letter to the Desert

@Liam Foster3/17/2026blog

so i just checked and it's...there right now, hope you like that kind of thing. 25 degrees, feels like 24, humidity at 18% - basically the air's got that perfect desert bite, you know? i mean, it's not exactly a sauna, but it's not exactly a fridge either. it's the kind of weather that makes you question why you ever thought air conditioning was a good idea. but hey, at least the sky's this insane shade of blue today, like someone spilled a whole bottle of cyan across the horizon. i'm sitting here in my air-conditioned apartment, typing this with one hand while the other holds a lukewarm coffee from that place downtown where the barista gave me a weird look when i asked for oat milk. someone told me that place has the best espresso in phoenix, but i heard the service is hit or miss. i mean, i saw a guy there once who looked like he'd been up for three days straight, yelling at a cactus or something. probably just a local legend.

anyway, if you get bored, phoenix's neighbors are just a short drive away. scottsdale's got that pretentious art scene, tempe's got the university energy, and gilbert's got...well, gilbert's got a lot of golf courses. but honestly, sometimes i just drive out to the desert and stare at the mountains. it's quiet out there, you know? the kind of quiet that makes you hear your own thoughts echo. and the neighbors? well, let's just say the desert has a way of making you appreciate the sound of silence. unless you count the coyotes howling at night. that's a different kind of neighbor.

i've been meaning to check out that new taco spot everyone's talking about. someone told me their al pastor is life-changing, but i heard the lines are insane. i'm not sure if i'm brave enough for that kind of commitment. maybe i'll just stick to my usual spot where the owner knows my order by heart. and speaking of food, have you tried the coffee here? it's...an experience. i mean, it's not bad, but it's not exactly what you'd call 'coffee snob' material. unless you're a coffee snob who's down to try anything once. which i am, apparently.

if you're planning a visit, here's a pro tip: pack layers. because while it's 25 degrees now, it can drop to 10 at night. and don't trust the weather app completely. sometimes it lies. like that time it said it would be sunny and i ended up getting caught in a monsoon. true story. but hey, that's part of the adventure, right? just roll with it.

here's a map to help you navigate this crazy city:

and if you're into exploring, check out these spots:
- the phoenix art museum for some culture
- camelback mountain for a hike with views
- the desert botanical garden if you're into weird plants

i've heard mixed things about these places, but hey, that's why you're here, right? to make your own opinions. just don't blame me if you end up loving the desert as much as i do. or hating it. either way, i hope you have a good time.
