Montreuil: the weird little village Paris forgot to gentrify

so i'm sitting in a tiny cafe on rue de Paris, trying to write this with a coffee that tastes like burnt toast and a croissant that's seen better days. the weather? 14 degrees, feels like 12.5, so basically you'll need a jacket but not a parka. humidity's low at 34%, which means your hair won't turn into a frizz monster-small wins.

montreuil is that quirky suburb east of paris that artists and broke students love because rent doesn't require selling a kidney. the vibe here is scruffy-chic: street art on every corner, vintage shops that smell like your grandma's attic, and bars where the bartender still smokes inside (don't tell anyone).

i heard from a local that the best falafel in the area is at *L'As du Fallafel on rue de Montreuil-apparently it's worth the line, even if you're hungover. someone else swore the Parc des Guilands is perfect for a lazy afternoon, especially if you want to pretend you're deep in thought while actually scrolling TikTok.

if you get bored,
paris, bagnolet, and saint-mande are just a short bike ride away. or you could just wander the backstreets here-you'll find weird little galleries, underground music spots, and the occasional cat that glares at you like you owe it money.

weather check: it's 14.14°c right now, feels like 12.5°c, so yeah, layer up. locals say it can flip to rain without warning, so maybe pack that foldable umbrella you never use.

tripadvisor for weird local museums, or yelp* for the best cheap eats. if you're into urban legends, someone told me the old market has a ghost that steals baguettes at midnight-probably just a hungry pigeon, but who knows.

anyway, montreuil isn't trying to be paris. it's messier, louder, and way more honest. and honestly? that's why it's worth the trip.
